Digital whiteboards are already in 85% of the classrooms

The Interactive Digital Whiteboard (PDI) It is an ICT element increasingly present in educational centers. According to the latest annual reportThe Networked Society'made by the National Observatory of Telecommunications and Information Society 85% of Spanish classrooms of regulated education is equipped with at least one PDI, in primary the percentage reaches 90% and in secondary 78%.

In addition to the classroom equipment, the study shows that a very high percentage of Spanish teachers integrate ICT into daily teaching programming and up to 75% use it at least once a week.

For Stephen Bernard, head of Legamaster in Spain: "Classroom equipment is already a mandatory tool in the classrooms of the 21st century, but it is still pending to resolve the methodological change to really take advantage of new technologies in the centers .

Teachers are increasingly aware of the benefits that ICTs bring to education and, to this day, most recognize that both the Interactive Digital Whiteboard and the large-format touch screen have provided four vital elements: interactivity, bi-directional collaborative aspect, the access to almost unlimited digital contents and the approach to the digital universe that the students of today live ".

The TIC awaken the motivation of students in class

The study reveals that 83% of teachers believe that students show greater interest and feel more motivated if ICT is used in class. The vision of the students is very similar: 93% believe that learning through new technologies is much more interesting and 72% believe that the acquisition of knowledge is easier thanks to ICT. In relation to the difficulty of their use, almost in their totality they assure that its handling is simple. Among the most carried out activities with the PDI, the exercises and group work, the explanations of the didactic units and the search of educational resources stand out.

"These are very relevant data that show the change of attitude of teachers regarding the use of ICTs in education, although they are very positive figures, it is necessary that the education sector continue to evolve at the pace that the technology itself does. we propose to go a step further and integrate Interactive Multi-tactile Displays, which multiply the possibilities of learning with respect to other technologies such as PDIs that are becoming obsolete ", explains Bernard who says that its handling is even more" simple and very intuitive " what previous technologies.

Obstacles to the incorporation of ICT in teaching practice

Although the data is encouraging in terms of the evolution of ICT in the education sector, the report also points out the main obstacles that teachers face when incorporating new technologies into the classroom. More than 50% of teachers demand more training in ICT since, although they feel prepared in the subject they are going to teach, only 15% ensure that they have the necessary ease to use it in the classroom in front of the students.

"The majority of teachers say they need more training in ICT skills that will enable them to be more effective in front of the students, therefore, it is essential to improve the general knowledge of computer science of teachers from the university, if we want the integration of technology. in the classroom it is a reality and, therefore, to get a useful education and according to today's world ", concludes Bernard.
