Spain also suspends in birth in this 2017
The last few years have not been good for Spain as far as motherhood is concerned. This country has experienced a decline in the birth rate to very disturbing levels that were not seen since the Civil War. The births they have been surpassed by deaths, so generational change from father to son is not even guaranteed, that is, at least two births per couple.
This 2017 does not seem to have changed the panorama as indicated by the Statistics National Institute, INE, in the data corresponding to the first semester of 2017, where it is verified that again the births in Spain they are not high enough to compensate for the loss of population caused by deaths. A negative balance that has been occurring since 2015.
Loss of more than 32,000 people
From January 2017 to the end of the first semester of the year in Spain there were 187,703 births, 6.3% less than in the same period of 2016. On the contrary, our country registered 219,835 deaths, a figure that increased by one year. 4,5% the records of the last course. These numbers suppose a negative growth translated in the loss of 32,132 people from one year to another.
The data highlights in particular how January 2017 was the month that most influenced this trend due to the high mortality rate registered during these days. In comparison with other years, Spain has considerably increased the number of people lost in its population, since in 2016 the decrease was 10,145 while in the last semester it can exceed 32,000.
As for births, only the autonomous city of Melilla experienced a positive record with a 1.2% increase in the number of births compared to previous records. Castilla y León was the community where the decrease was most appreciated with 9.5% less, Castilla-La Mancha, 8.2% less and the Comunicad de Madrid, with a drop of 7.4%.
The data of the INE also reflect a decrease of 6.8% in the number of marriages comparing these data with those of the first semester of 2016. In total during the first 6 months of 2017 a total of 68,769 unions were counted. The best news of these figures is the increase in life expectancy in Spain which is placed in the 83.1 years.
Explanation to the situation
Why are these data being given in Spain? These are some of the grounds that are leading young people in this country to think twice before betting on being parents:
- Economic situation. Job instability and low wages make it impossible for a couple to afford the expenses of a new member in the home.
- Difficult to reconcile. In Spain there is a lot of work to reconcile work and family. Many households have very difficult to maintain a working life with the care of a child.
- Constant training. A few years ago, it was enough to have a university degree and a master's degree to specialize in some branch. Today, the training is constant, taking away a very important time for the care of the children.
- Less young population. With the reduction of the young population, it is less likely to find women and men of reproductive age.
