Babies begin to connect words before being able to use them

The development of a child's cognitive skills is a mystery. As scientific research, discover new developments that had never been believed without this empirical evidence. For example, the fact that babies start to connect words in their minds before being able to use them in their day to day and transmit them orally.

This is the conclusion reached by the study of the Duke University and that to make see that the language develops in the minors to greater speed than thought until now. However, this learning that takes place mentally does not translate on the surface, that is, babies understand the words and they are able to connect them, but they can not reproduce them. A novelty that can change the way many parents communicate with their newborn children.

Evidence in the eyes

Not being able to verify through dialogue if the children had understood the meaning of the words spoken to them, the researchers turned to the eye tracking to check the response of the babies to the auditory stimuli that came to them in the form of words. For this purpose, a group of 40 children of early ages was chosen, who were told several words and the reaction to them was noted through the eyes with which they responded.

The objective was to see if the children's eyes related the word they had just been told with an image they had on a screen in front of them. For example, if they listened "pen"Your eyes had to focus on the photograph of one of these items on the monitor." The tests also showed that children were more likely to make an accurate relationship when the term was daily.

In this way, parents are encouraged to talk with their children so that several words are more common to them. This finding opens a way in the development of the language since it could suppose that the child begins to speak having in mind a great vocabulary of terms that dominates and relates to reality.

Stimulate language in children

Speech is one of the most important skills to be learned. Therefore, parents should work to stimulate this capacity. From the Education services of the Xunta of Galicia offers a series of tips for this purpose:

- Do not intimidate him before the apparent lack of objectives conquered.

- Adapt the length of your sentences to the child's capacity.

- Turn learning into a game where the child is encouraged to enjoy the experience.

- Use cards where the child can identify the meaning of the word with a real image of it.

- Always read so that the child keeps some words in his head.
