More than half of young people confess not to be interested in politics

Currently in Spain there is a somewhat difficult political context. The crisis in Catalonia, the numerous cases of corruption and an incomprehensible language for many make young people see this world as something alien to them, or a subject that causes rejection. And so it happens according to the survey of 2017 Scope Project Barometer.

A report prepared by the Reina Sofía Center on Adolescence and Youth of the FAD. These pages contain the assessment of 1,247 young people, of whom more than half confess not to feel an interest in politics. A sample of how the current situation in the country is causing younger generations to distrust candidates and leaders.

Deterioration of confidence

The data in this report indicate in 64% young people who claim not to trust political parties and feel distrust of the leaders. In fact, the parties are the institution that offers the least security to the younger generations, to many others such as the financial system, with 28.9%, or media, 7.4%.

By age, young people under 19 years they are the least trusted in political parties. A sample that reveals how the message of these institutions does not reach younger generations and how the attitude shown by the leaders of these entities causes fatigue in them.

Some data that relate with the study Politics and the internet. A reading from the youth (and from the network), made by FAD and other entities and where more than half of the young people surveyed indicate the indignation as the feeling that the current policy provokes in them. Mistrust, impotence and worry remain on this list.

On the contrary, only 2% affirmed that the current parties induce them enthusiasm and 6.3% point to hope as the feeling they associate with politics. Although, curiously, these generations have a high intention to vote, related to their desire to change the current system. Some data, in this sense, that even exceed the average of the adult population.

The problems that concern

The Project Scopio study has also taken into account the feeling of young people about the problems they most believe that it affects them. In the first place, low salaries appear, indicated by 41.1% as the most directly affecting them, followed by job insecurity, 31.8% and unemployment, 30.9%. Some data that indicate the concern of these generations for their economic future.

On the contrary, buying a home does not seem to worry the younger ones. Renting a home is only considered as a problem by the 11% of the respondents and buy it by 13.3%. Everything seems to indicate that these generations consider money and stable employment as the solution to the rest of situations that may affect them.

It should be noted that emancipation becomes a major concern as young people grow up. From the age of 25, leaving home becomes the problem that most takes sleep away from new generations, whether for university students or for other educational levels.
