Winter Blues, how to face the sadness of the winter schedule

It is difficult to imagine how not long ago the summer days gave us hours and hours of sun in which the Astro Rey accompanied until the wee hours. With the approach of winter this amount of light is reduced and the night comes before, a situation that although normal and experienced year after year, causes in some subjects a feeling of sadness difficult to explain.

This situation is known as Winter Blues, or wintertime sadness. The British Health Service attributes this situation as a response of the organism to the absence of hours of sunlight that causes hormonal changes, although today there is no explanation for this response to the shortening of the days that occur in this season.

In sadness, light influences the environment

The experts of this organization emphasize that the environment in which the subject operates is important for two main reasons. On the one hand, if the subject lives in a context characterized by a large number of hours of light and later moves to a darker area and in which the Sun sets earlier, it will be more likely that the wintertime sadness.

On the other hand, the environment is important in the same way because the home can be the solution to this winter sadness. At home there must be a climate characterized by light, since this is precisely what is discouraging the person. Although it is artificial, keeping the room where the person is illuminated will stimulate the production of hormones that help maintain a more cheerful mood.

Experts also warn of double edged sword which may mean taking a trip in this era. There are those who take advantage of bridges or vacations to escape a few days to a sunny place and escape from these darker days. But you should bear in mind that at some point you have to go back home and reassume the situation. A short trip is advisable, do not forget that the shorter days wait around.

Beware of the side effects of winter sadness

One of the most common responses to winter sadness is the increase in unhealthy foods, especially sweets and chocolates. This is coupled with apathy that makes people not want to leave home. In these cases sedentary lifestyle is combined with a poor diet that cause other health problems arising from overweight and create a very dangerous routine for the future.

For this reason, specialists recommend winter practice to increase the practice of exercise. Experts explain that 30 minutes of exercise Three times a week are effective against depression and there is evidence that a lighter activity also has beneficial effects. Also, while the mind is distracted and evades the apathy caused by the few hours of light.

On the other hand, experts recommend that if the winter sadness begins to alter the pace of life, whether in school performance by children or at work, in the case of parents, you have to go to a specialist. This can recommend some therapies effective to lift the mood and solve this situation effectively.
