The fine psychomotor: the infantile domain of the hands

The fine motor skills It is a sequence of coordinated movements that are made with different parts of the body. The best known is the one that coordinates the movements of the hands and eyes, like grasping, taking objects in tweezers ... and it is fundamental that children master it before they start to write. Why?

Because these skills that require a high level of precision, are an entry into the lives of babies and children to get other skills with more complex hands.

As it grows and by itself, babies naturally acquire the skills of fine motor skills, but there are also ways to help them reach them more quickly and effectively.


To develop fine motor skills, the child must work with different materials, in order to achieve the appropriate level of precision and coordination required by the tasks in which eyes, hands and fingers are simultaneously used. In the same way, it is necessary to perform exercises that encourage the development of visual-manual coordination that will take the child to the control of the hand and the elements that intervene in the movement of the hand: wrist, forearm and arm.

How to develop fine motor skills

So that children can learn to pick up the pencil, they must have developed their ability to handle their hands and fingers well as well as the synchronization of their movements. From their earliest childhood, these exercises can help them develop those fine motor skills.
