Spanish women among those who postpone motherhood the most in the EU

Having a child and starting a family is one of the best feelings a person can experience. To make a new life come to this world and then to teach it to walk through it is something that can only be known by living that experience. However, the decision to embark on the challenge of maternity.

In fact, as shown by the latest data from Eurostat, the Spanish appear in the first positions of the ranking of countries that postpone the maternity in the Old Continent. Only Italy exceeds this nation in number of women who have their first child from 40 years.

Between 30 and 39 years old

Eurostat data indicate that more than half of first-time mothers in Spain have already passed the age of thirty. Specifically, 62% of the women who debut in maternity have an age between 30 and 39 years. At the same time, this country also presents the second largest volume of the entire European continent of mothers above 40.

According to these numbers a 7,4% of Spanish mothers had their first child at age 40. Data that is surpassed only by Italy, nation that figures in 8% the number of women who postpone until age the decision to debut with motherhood. What is an increase in risks, both for the future mother and for the baby in path.

Experts point to these as the risks faced by a mother who decides to bring a life from 35 years old:

- Deterioration of physical condition that makes delivery more complicated and increases the chances of problems arising during the same.

- Increase in the chances of abortion and cesarean section being an age for which the body is biologically not prepared to gestate.

- Increased chances of the fetus developing genetic abnormalities and making it more likely that the child may have Down syndrome.

- More age when facing the care of a child, which means less energy to meet the many needs of a child.

- Less chance of generating another child, which threatens the generational change in the family.

The problem of conciliation

Among the reasons that cause maternity to be postponed the most, work stands out. Both the lack of posts that provide a salary for keep to the family, as the greatest difficulty in reconciling a job with caring for a child. Here are some tips to cope with working life and motherhood and fatherhood:

- Rationalize schedules. It takes less than half an hour to eat, shortening this meal time would mean leaving earlier and spending more time with the children.

- Earlier entry. You can reach a pact with the company to try to advance the time of entry to work to leave earlier and be able to devote more time to children.

- Do not work overtime and even less not justified. Money does not give happiness, so investing this time in the family is a better option than doing it to receive a larger payroll.
