The abuse of sugar can lead to depression

A common belief is to think that when someone is sad, take something sweet it will help you out of the pothole. But like many urban legends, this theory is false. This is what the study published in the magazine has shown Nature where it has been shown that far from throwing a cable to overcome these situations, the abuse of sugar helps the opposite.

This research has shown that there is a link between the abuse of sugar and the depression. Proof that these food licenses are granted in these situations does not help, but makes the mood worse. Some effects that must be added the well-known as the greatest possibility of developing diabetes and overweight problems.

More depressed people

This investigation analyzed a total of 8,000 participants in a longitudinal study where they had to answer a periodic survey that began in 1983 and ended in 2013, 30 years later. The subjects were questioned for the amount of sugar they usually consumed and subjected to tests in order to determine their level of health and find problems such as depression or anxiety.

The results indicated that those people who consumed about 67 grams a day of sugar presented a 23% More than likely to develop depression or anxiety throughout his life. The relevance of this study may present a paradigm shift since it was usually believed that these problems were those that led to the consumption of sweet products.

In the case of parents, see the little ones discouraged Sometimes he tries to fix himself by giving them treats in the form of sweets and other types of sweets. This study could mean that the problems are generated precisely by the consumption of excessively sugary items since the participants showed the same symptoms despite eating these products regularly.

Anika Knüppel, principal director of this research, argues that these results are not conclusive today and that new studies will be needed to deepen this field. Of course, suggests to families reduce the consumption of sugar and prevent excesses in the amount derived from these behaviors such as diabetes, cavities or obesity, and that have been proven.
