Benefits of early treatment of diabetes 2

You can not treat that disease that has not been diagnosed. Conducting a medical examination can help younger children deal with their health problems early. This is highlighted by the doctor Marina Medina Navarro, of the Hospital Nuestra Señora de la Salud of Granada, who explains the need to perform a routine screening in young people in order to diagnose the type 2 diabetes.

A screening that aims to detect this disorder that arises from the resistance and deficiency relative to insulin. According to Medina Navarro, many cases of type 2 diabetes they remain hidden due to the absence of this screening, which causes many minors to go through this problem without an effective treatment. In addition, the chances of one of these cases appearing are greater at a time when obesity has expanded so much among the new generations.

Asymptomatic cases

According to Medina Navarro, the onset of type 2 diabetes occurs most frequently during adolescence, the stage where maximum insulin levels occur, as well as a decrease around a 30% of your sensitivity. The problem is that this disorder is often asymptomatic. It is possible to detect some of the classic symptoms such as polyuria, polydipsia, blurred vision and weight loss, in association with glucosuria and even ketonuria.

The presence of these symptoms can be occasional, with the appearance of diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperosmolar non-ketotic crisis. Faced with this situation, the specialist recommends screening and effective treatments from an early age in order to prevent outbreaks that will appear in the future as a result of this disorder in the body.

Medina Navarro explains that young people with type 2 diabetes have a loss of life expectancy of 15 years due to the presence of hypertension, which affects 10-32% of patients; microalbuminuria, 14-22%, of the diagnosed; retinopathy, 9.3%; dyslipidemia, in up to 85%. In 22% of young people it is also possible the appearance of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Risk groups

To avoid this problem, as has been said, it is important to carry out a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes that allows an effective treatment in young people. Especially, this screening must be done in groups of risks that have a greater probability to present this disorder in your body:

- Children with overweight.

- Children with a family history of type 2 diabetes.

- Children with symptoms of insulin resistance or conditions associated with insulin resistance: acanthosis nigricans, hypertension, dyslipidemia, polycystic ovarian syndrome.

- Children whose mothers had gestational diabetes.

Once type 2 diabetes is detected, initiating treatment against this disorder will help prevent the problems caused by it. These are some of the points that should be taken into account according to the Diabetes Teaching Center at the University of California, San Francisco:

- Monitoring of blood sugar and ketones. This review should be regular and be part of everyday life, parents should talk with their children to explain the importance of doing this activity and never skip it

- Take medications for diabetes such as pills, injectable medicines or even insulin. Parents should ensure that their children always carry an emergency kit with them, especially when they go to a friend or relative's house for the night.

- Problem solving. Know how and when to adjust the doses of drugs to avoid high or low blood sugars

- Lifestyle that helps to normalize the levels of sugars in blood. The diet of the child must take into account this circumstance to avoid major problems.
