You also learn to work

One of the best experiences that a young person can acquire for his own personal training is to do some small work as a first job, paid or not, to teach him what are the conditioning factors of adult working life, to help him develop responsibility and that allows you to take perspective on the real value of money. And is that to work you also learn taking contact with the working world little by little.

They may be low skilled jobs, how to help in a warehouse, serve in a hamburger restaurant or work as a waiter for a few hours; others something more qualified how to give English classes in the neighborhood, support young children with homework or take care of them when their parents are not there; and they can also be the business practice which are usually offered with higher degrees both university and professional training. The important thing is to know that work is also learned.

As parents see our children make the decision of what academic or professional path to follow can be very overwhelming. There is not a correct decision. In addition, we have to leave freedom on the road to choose, although at the same time we suffer thinking that it may be the wrong decision. We want the best for our children, but we do not want them to suffer for making mistakes and having a bad time.

Although money does not give happiness, we all want to see our children prepared to face the working world in an appropriate way. It is easy to think that making money is the most important labor factor, but in this world of volatile economies, governments and international financial markets, the true guarantee of economic security is what you earn from a job well done.

Benefits of contact with the world of work

The work will extract a series of important habits and values that, in addition, the young person internalizes better because they are teachings that he does not receive from his parents, with which they can maintain a more confrontational relationship. These are some of the benefits:

1. Follow a set schedule
Working requires having to comply with a schedule in a rigorous way, plan ahead of time, be punctual and perform a number of activities in a certain time. This planning of time and actions supposes an elementary learning of management and self-control.

2. Develop a spirit of sacrifice and commitment
Stop doing things that we want to do what we owe is a wonderful aspect that comes from doing all work. Make decisions where the only thing that pushes you to do the right thing and work when you owe it is your personal commitment to do it, is a capacity that develops with practice.

3. Learn the value of money
Knowing how much an hour of work well done is worth a lesson. Work and start saving towards a purpose (paying for school, something you want to buy, a trip, etc.) makes you appreciate much more what is achieved. Students who pay for their own studies do not skip classes, do not decide not to study for an exam due to laziness. Also, someone who works to make a trip enjoys every minute, and someone who saves to buy something you want does not use the object lightly when you get it. Knowing what money is worth is a great learning that comes from having to work to get it.

4. Conflict resolution capacity
It is very common to find yourself in the work scene with problems of all kinds. Whether something prevents you from doing your job, you lack materials, your colleagues are not efficient or your boss is not a good leader. There are numerous external reasons that can be inconvenient when doing a good job. Being exposed to these types of obstacles helps you learn to overcome them or compensate them. All entrepreneurs with companies that did not succeed tell the same anecdote: Although they did not get the results they wanted, they learned a lot more than they thought. They learned what not to do and how to improve and overcome the mistakes they made that led to their failure. They claim that they would not have learned so much in such a short time of not having been exposed to those experiences considered unfortunate in everything except the knowledge they generate.

5. Initiative
All work in which love and effort is invested creates a spirit of initiative and dedication in the worker. When investing in a work activity, it is very common to want to improve that work. Either reducing the time required, seek to optimize the way it is done, seek to improve the execution itself, etc. This spirit of initiative is a great result of work and is of great value in the workplace.

As parents we can try to promote a good work ethic at home, educate professional values by example and develop habits from childhood. But do not underestimate the value of all work that will undoubtedly contribute to the professional growth of our son.It is good to have great aspirations, to encourage our children to achieve their dreams, but it is also good to let them learn about the reality of the world for themselves.

We have to always transmit the idea that all work is equally worthy and the important thing is to do it with the best of attitudes and the best possible results. Starting from the bottom will help you to always value all the tasks, appreciate what they want and what they have.
