Young people dominate oral English before writing

We live in a globalized world. New technologies have broken the borders between countries and the world is more connected than ever. In this new context it is necessary to learn a language that makes all these areas can communicate, English is presented as the best solution in this regard. In fact, this language has become an essential requirement in every curriculum.

The new generations face the challenge of learning this new language to win professional success in the future. But is it easy for them to master these skills, or does it cost them a world? According to him EPI-School young people in Spain what they work hardest is reading and writing texts in English, while the oral part of this language is something they manage quite quickly.

Auditory learning

This study analyzed the cases of students of Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate. The results highlighted that the majority of students possess a B1 level very close to B2 in the oral part of the language, while in the reading and writing sections the qualification is in the A2. According to those responsible for this study, this situation is the result of the greater ease of learning a language at the auditory level.

For this, they give the example of the speech acquisition process in the mother tongue. This is given through a listening mechanism by the child who gradually integrates words in his vocabulary, learns their meaning and uses them. Something that happens intuitively, while later writing and reading costs more and the transcription of these ideas to paper is more difficult.

Also, outside of the classroom, English is easier to to practice at the oral and listening level that in reading and writing. Young people can talk in their leisure time with other foreign students or with those of their own country. In addition, we must also take into account the number of series and films that are available to new generations in the original version and that allow you to accustom the ear to these pronunciations.

To learn another language

As has already been said, learning a new language is a requirement that has become indispensable in the future employment of new generations. These are some tips that can be used to master English or any other language the child is learning:

Books in another language. As the aforementioned study explains, there is a gap between the oral level and that of writing or reading. At this point you can compensate by giving young people books in another language so they can gain proficiency in these qualities.

The game of cards. Choose several images of different objects: a meal, a piece of furniture, toys, etc. and below them write the name of these articles. Teach them to the child and he will learn to recognize them, in this way he will know how they are written while also practicing pronunciation.

The basic words. Each language has a basic vocabulary, the child must first master these words before expanding his mental database. The writing of small essays using these terms will contribute to the improvement of their language skills.

Bilingual camp. Summer comes, leisure hours increase and sometimes turn into really tedious moments. This may be a good time to decide on a bilingual camp where the child has a great time while learning a new language.

No shyness. Sometimes the learning of a language can be burdened by shame. This shyness must be overcome and encourage the child to practice this language in all senses, without fear of being wrong. Establish a routine that every day strengthen these notions a little more.
