6 errors in education that hinder children's learning

The first educational stage has a great impact on the formation of children's personality. During this period, children are very receptive and nowadays there are certain risks that can endanger their learning as a very academic education or excessively focused towards new technologies.

The neuropsychologist Álvaro Bilbao, author of the book Children's brain explained to parents, in the congress of the World Association of Early Childhood Educators (AMEI-WAECE) held in Madrid with the presence of half a thousand teachers, explained that "there are six black dots in the education of children, if they do not have in account and avoided, can limit the development of all the capacities of boys and girls.

6 black spots in education that hinder children's learning

1. Do not use positive reinforcement: recognizing the things the child does well helps him in his learning process as well as his own brain maturation, experimentation, observation and instruction received at school. According to Álvaro Bilbao, "what matters is the process, rather than the goal, so you have to value the effort that creatures make when they try to concentrate or ask for one thing please." Even if the result is not 100% satisfactory at that time , it is important to celebrate the evolution so that the child does not associate effort with frustration ".

2. Give negative messages: Repeating a child that is grumpy, vague or aggressive ends up sedimenting in the hippocampus, the part of the brain that stores memory and knowledge. The pedagogical effect of this is counterproductive, since the child may end up believing what they say he is and accept that role.

3. Overprotect: Children do what they feel is fundamental in the family. For example, reading, not leaving food on the plate or respecting others. Their high capacity to observe the behavior of adults makes them learn. "If his educator or family is insecure and overprotective with respect to him, he will be stimulating the child's amygdala, which activates fear and insecurity, instead of the prefrontal cortex, which shelters trust and coping," says Álvaro Bilbao .

4. Adulterate the natural maturational rhythm: is, for Álvaro Bilbao, one of the most common problems today. "Excessively academic systems cause demotivation because they have not developed the instinct to learn, which comes from enjoyment," he said. In this sense, he recommended to the teachers to find what makes each special child so that he "learns to learn according to the hobbies".

5. Overstimulation in the digital age: children need few stimuli and well developed, Bilbao abounded, but the current consumer society does not lead to rest and causes overstimulated children. As an example, the digital world, where positive reinforcements multiply: scores, adrenaline, high quality graphic design ... In addition, tablets prevent children from learning through touch, something that remains fundamental because, at an early age, They do not have disassociated the physical and mental world as an adult.

6. Fall into the not educate as a way to educate: the creatures require a lot of affection, a calm rhythm and confidence in themselves. According to the expert, educators, both teachers and family, have to help the little ones connect the three brains of the human being: the reptilian brain, which is the most instinctive; The mammal or emotional, which is based on motivation and memory and seeks to approach the things that have caused satisfaction before, and the rational, which includes writing, reasoning or creativity. For Bilbao, empathy and play are ideal ways to connect these mental worlds and educate.
