The Government is reminded of the need for a National Family Law

As every May 15th a few years ago the world celebrates the International Day of Families, a date in which the importance that these units have for the support of society is remembered. This point of the calendar also serves to claim the satisfaction of some needs of these nuclei so that they can have a secure future.

It is the case of Family Forum, organism that on the occasion of the celebration of this date has reminded the Government of the need to approve a National Law with which to meet the different needs that these nuclei currently have. A regulation that at the same time guarantees the long term protection of these units.

Protect families

Since the Family Forum, it is recalled that this year 15 th of May it will focus on highlighting the role that these units play in society and especially in the promotion of education and the well-being of its members. Special emphasis will be placed on the continuous training of both children and young people.

Mariano Calabuig, president of this institution, suggests that the International Day of Families is a good date to claim the importance of these units and the consideration they deserve. Therefore, they will join the celebration of this date of the calendar in order to ask the governments, both local, autonomous and state, the resolution of the needs of these nuclei.

These are the requests that they carry out from the Forum of the Family to the Government:

- The approval of a National Family Law that incorporates the family perspective into all public policies and guarantees a common minimum of protection for the family throughout the national territory.

- A State of Education Pact that leaves politics out.

- A National Demographic Plan.

- Equating 2.3% of the Gross Domestic Product in aid to all Spanish families in the rest of the neighboring countries.

Importance of families

The claim of the Family Forum is related to the protection that these nuclei deserve in the development of the new generations. Other organizations such as Children's Villages also highlight the need for children to grow up in these types of environments to develop basic skills for their future, such as social skills and a source of values that mark their ethics.

A family is much more than a group of people who resolve needs basic of children such as food or clothing. These nuclei have a great impact on the social and emotional development of every human being. It is there where the necessary skills are acquired to face adult life and develop our full potential.

Families drive the ways of seeing the world, of thinking, the behaviors and the way in which life is valued and that of others. The family helps the children to learn who they really are, to form their personality and to provide emotional support. The environment in which the youngest grows defines the fundamental basis for the rest of their lives.
