Anal fistulas in children, what care should be taken

Children and hospitals are two terms that the more far appear from each other, better. However, unfortunately, this can not always be the case and sometimes internment is inevitable. Well because the doctor wants to see first hand the evolution of the child or because a surgical intervention is necessary.

There are many types of surgical interventions and all of them they are a world. And all of them require some care or others. This is the case of the fistula, a health problem that needs to be removed, causing discomfort in the child and a sensation of discomfort that can cause the postoperative period to be too long. Therefore, you have to know how to treat the child once you get home.

Why an anal fistula occurs

The appearance of an anal fistula responds to Various reasons. On the one hand there are genetic issues, a family member who has developed this problem makes it more likely that the child is affected by this issue. The lack of hygiene is also an explanation, so it is convenient to remind children of the need to thoroughly clean their private parts to avoid these cases.

An anal fistula can also be caused by the lack of exercise and the sedentarismo, again the prevention can save an intervention of this type since if it is obtained that the boy goes out often to make exercise, there will be less probability. Finally, other operations in the anus area related to other problems can also lead to one of these cases.

Fistula intervention

The anal fistula usually manifests through a pain in the area of the buttocks or with blood in the underpants. Being a wound, usually stains the underwear of minors, especially after making some effort. If these symptoms are noticed, it is necessary to go to the specialist so that this one decides if it is necessary to intervene or not, and if it is worth intervening.

The usual procedure does not usually require general anesthesia and consists of the removal of the anal fistula. Although in some cases it is necessary to carry out a colostomy to access some areas where they are located. If the usual operation is performed, the hospital discharge can be performed on the same day.

Once the doctor has decided that it is not necessary to spend more time in the hospital and that the child can go home, it is important to follow the recommendations that the specialist has indicated. In the same way, the following will have to be followed guidelines to ensure a good postoperative period:

- Daily treatments. The wound that remains after the operation must be treated daily to avoid possible infections and ensure a good healing.

- It will be advisable to buy new underwear, that transpire and that can serve as a replacement since it is common for children to bleed the days after the operation and stain these clothes.

- The child should sit in places where he does not have to make an effort with his hips to get up. He should be helped by pulling his arm carefully to sit up.

- The best sleeping position is on the side, or failing that, on the back. The child should never be allowed to keep this area close to the mattress.

- Spend time standing and take small walks, without exceeding the speed, it is convenient because in this way the healing of this wound is favored and the pain and discomfort felt by the child is avoided.
