First aid, should they be taught at school?

Reacting well to an accident is very important. The first steps taken after one of these moments can make the difference between a scare or a serious event. This is where the first aid They mark the line between these two possibilities.

However, the correct realization of these practices is not available to everyone. Few people know how to perform a maneuver RPC or how to act if you observe a faint. It is for this reason that some entities such as MAPFRE Foundation offer teachers training courses so that the first aid become part of the school content in schools.

The basic steps

The mission is to transmit to the students the basic steps to help a person in danger. First aid that supposes the first step to save the life of the person in danger. The Parent's Guide that made this foundation together with the Spanish Association of Pediatrics highlights three important actions when you are with an accident victim:

- To protect. The victim of an accident or problem such as fainting is unprotected. There are many dangers that can make things worse. For this reason, creating a security perimeter around this person is paramount, it will be enough to stay with her and ensure that nothing happens to her. This will prevent other problems from worsening the situation.

- Warn. The second step, once the victim has been assured, will be to notify the health services as soon as possible so that they can appear as soon as possible in the place and assist the person. The success of this situation will depend on the speed with which these professionals are contacted. It is very important that the little ones know the emergency numbers like 061 or 112.

- Help. If first aid maneuvers are known, they will have to be used. Every second counts in these situations and many lives can be saved. Although many of these techniques are not known, there are basic things to know: never leave the victim alone until the health services arrive, do not move the person unless there is an extreme danger of being run over. In case of motorcycle accident, the case should be kept in the head of the person who has fallen from the vehicle.

AVA behavior

First aid can not only be done once the accident. Before one of these situations happens there are also methods that serve to avoid taking our hands to the head, since the Red Cross encourages households to maintain a behavior AVA, that is, a daily life characterized by the following points:

- Warn of danger. There are many risks at home and abroad. We must warn them and ensure that the smallest maintain a cautious attitude. Look on each side before crossing the road, do it by the pedestrian crossing and watching that the traffic light is red. At home explain that areas such as the kitchen are not playing and that some items such as fires or the closet of cleaning products should only be used by adults.

- Assess the possible risks. Buy a new piece of furniture, a toy with dangerous pieces or the place where medicines are placed. All these practices must be monitored to avoid possible accidents. Children should also be taught this assessment, for example by choosing less dangerous routes or how to behave by playing, to feed their capacity for reflection.

- Adopt safe attitude. You should always have security in mind. In all areas of life should be aware of the possible risks and never lose sight of the dangers that can make a sad day.
