Large families demand a special paternity leave from the Government
Having a child is a time to be enjoyed. To spend next to this new person his first days of life is one of the experiences most beautiful that you can experience Of course, not all families live in the same way these moments since each type of home have their needs.
As for example large families, who have seen how the change in the policy of the permits implemented in January has not assessed their special situation. For this reason, the Spanish Federation of Large Families, FEFN, has asked the Government to reconsider the merit that these homes deserve.
The FEFN request
For the FEFN with the previous paternity leave policy it was extended to 13 to 20 dayss the time by which a man could spend with his son at home once he was born if he belonged to a large family. However, with the entry of this change, the 28 days become equal for all males, regardless if they belong to a household with more children or if it is the first.
This organism applauds the change of direction that the government with paternity leave, but believes that the special needs of large families have been forgotten. For this reason, he has raised a petition to the Minister of Employment and Social Security, Fatima Bañez so that she reconsider on the matter and grant more time at home to parents belonging to these types of homes.
"Given the needs of a large family and in the spirit of favoring co-responsibility in the home, equality, support for the birthrate and similarly, support families with children, families with greater family responsibilities should have special treatment, greater in terms of the number of days of paternity leave ", explain from FEFN.
Reconciliation in large families
In Spain one of the barriers to having children is the difficulty to reconcile children and work, reason why it is not valued to have more than one or two offspring. This can be seen in some surveys such as the one conducted by FEFN and the Madrid Vivo Foundation to large families throughout Spain to know how they are and how they live.
In this work, more than 4,000 large families where he deepened in his habits of life and consumption. These units were also asked about the main difficulties and concerns that these households have that represent more than half a million in Spain
Among other issues, the 51% of large families considers the reconciliation of work and family life as the main difficulty that families have today to have children, followed by instability and precarious employment for 35% and the economic crisis, something that it seems to worry them less than a few years ago: only 12% of respondents point to it as the main problem, compared to 17% in 2014.
