The mobile occupies almost as much time as sleeping in the youngest

It is increasingly rare to see someone who lacks a mobile with Internet connection, even more in the young population. The new technologies have been definitively introduced into society by the facilities they offer in life: a greater connection between remote sites, easy access to information, rental of audiovisual products at any time of the day.

But on many occasions it is forgotten that new technologies are an instrument for facilitate day to day, not an instrument around which to make our lives. However, many people make abusive use of their smartphones dedicating almost as much time to other activities as important as sleeping. This is revealed by the III Study of Online Comparison towards Smart Savings.

Nearly seven hours a day devote to the mobile

If there is someone who uses new technologies, those are the young ones. This is how this work reveals. The data of the sample collected from between 18 and 24 years old They show that digital natives use smartphones for several hours a day. Specifically, this sector of the population devotes 30% of their day to use their mobile devices with Internet connection.

Which means almost seven hours a day making use of their smartphones. Specifically, an average of six hours and 48 minutes It is the time that digital natives, born in the 90s, use with their mobile phones. Some data that far exceed the use that other generations give to these devices.

Specifically the youngest exceed four hours those born between 1951 and 1961, a generation that has remained stable in the use of their smartphones in relation to the previous edition of this work.
However, the new data from this study reveals that digital natives have increased the consumption of their phones an hour and a half.

Young people do not consider themselves addicted

Although digital natives use their smartphone so many hours a day, young people do not see themselves as addicted to these devices. Only one 31,2% considers that it has a dependence on its mobile phones with an internet connection. However, the fact of not knowing how to do without these devices is not something exclusive of this generation since older people also consider new technologies as essential.

It is true that digital natives are the ones who most claim not to know how to live without their mobile phones because almost 81% He affirms that these devices are part of their lives. However, a high percentage of older generations also recognize the importance of smartphones in their daily lives and 65% of people between 55 and 65 do not value a day where these devices are absent.

Increase the review frequency to the smartphone

Smartphones have not only been presented as an element widely used by digital natives, but have also displaced other devices such as computers for internet consultations. 72% of the young people participating in this study stated that navigate through the network mainly with your mobile. On the other hand, only one in four people between 55 and 65 years old use these devices to consult web pages.

In addition to the hours of mobile consumption, the frequency with which young people make use of these devices has also grown. More than 54% of digital natives confirm that they watch their smartphone about 10 times hourly.

Digital education for the youngest

Given this scenario, it is clear that it is necessary to educate the youngest to make responsible use of these devices, both in hours of use and in terms of content they consume. Here are some tips to get it:

1. Technological responsibility. If the child receives a smartphone, he must accept a series of rules for responsible use. If you violate them, there will be penalties.

2. Phone review. Among these rules should be the review of the activity that the child performs. You must accept that parents can see from time to time the use you make with your mobile.

3. Parental filters. The child must accept that browsers and other applications install filters to prevent access to content not recommended for their age.

4. At school, the mobile is not used. We may want the child to bring a Smartphone to school to be located in case of emergency. But just for that, not for fun or distraction. In class the mobile should not be used.

5. Beware of personal information. The child should never provide information that can give clues on how to locate it. In the event that these data are necessary to install an application, parents should be consulted to assess security.

6. Be careful with the phone. Not only must ensure the physical integrity of the mobile, you also have to be careful not to install applications of dubious origin that can open the door of the smartphone to other people.

7. The phone is not your life. We must transmit to the child that his mobile is a tool, not an object through which he can live. The need to relate in person and to depend as little as possible on this object must be inculcated.

8. Learn from mistakes. It is inevitable that the child will occasionally exceed the use of the mobile phone. We will take advantage of these situations to improve your education.

9. Communication. If someone starts to annoy a child through their mobile, they should know that the first thing to do is to inform the parents of this situation.

10. Do not use it for harassment. The child may find it funny to play a joke on a friend through his smartphone. You have to make him see that just as he can be annoyed to receive these thanks, to the other person as well.
