Although a priori it may seem that the child has passed this important event in your life, you may have left sequels that manifest through the posttraumatic stress. A problem that many parents They can not recognize because it manifests itself through symptoms as common in these ages as nightmares or fears of dangerous elements.

Post-traumatic stress is not exclusive to adults

Many people that the disorders caused by the posttraumatic stress they are exclusive to adults who have lived Limit episodes. However, children are also susceptible to experiencing these sensations after witnessing hard events. This is what the Norwich School of Medicine from the University of East Anglia, who wanted to show how children are also the target of these traumas.

To do so, they followed more than 100 children from between 2 and 10 years They had been victims of a traffic accident or had witnessed a hit while walking or had had a hard fall from their bicycles that had meant their internment. All of them had been taken to the hospital with injuries such as contusions, fractures or loss of consciousness.

In order to evaluate the influence of these disorders on them, the researchers evaluated their condition between two and four weeks after the accident and six months later they returned to check the state in which these children were. The researchers found that those who showed signs of stress shortly after the incident did not necessarily suffer a disorder after 3 years, only a minority developed these problems.

Problems in recognizing post-traumatic stress

It is in this minority where researchers found a important element: parents whose children developed a post-traumatic stress disorder were unable to recognize the symptoms that indicated the presence of this problem. According to those responsible for this study, this issue can cause children never overcome these episodes.

In addition, researchers found a relationship between way to react of the parents and the worsening of stress. In many occasions the attitude of the adults is of frustration when seeing the presence of symptoms as an excessive insecurity of their children or that they suffer nightmares assiduously. An attitude that makes children not overcome their disorders but that they go to more to think that they are the guilty of the attitude of their parents.

In these cases the researchers suggest that if the parents notice the presence of symptoms, after a traumatic event, such as nightmares, fear of returning to the place of the traumatic event, excessive insecurity; the best is go to a specialist to check if the child has some of these disorders or not.
