Colors against dyslexia

Clumsy, slow, problematic ... are just some of the terms that are often used to define those children who suffer certain learning problems. They are not able to read at the same speed as their peers and they even have an illegible handwriting ... In summary: they are children who suffer dyslexia, a brain dysfunction that interferes with mental processes when reading and writing.

Consequently, this burden that the dyslexia has made thousands of children have been unable to live a happy childhood for generations. Bad notes, teasing from his classmates, endless school support courses ... With such a panorama, who could enjoy his childhood!

Ashley and her dyslexia

"Till the date, dyslexia it was considered exclusively a psychological problem. However, I would like to tell you my experience in case it could be of any use ... My daughter Ashley is 9 years old and has an Intellectual Coefficient above 120. She is totally bilingual, but until very recently she could not read or write according to her age! Ashley complained that the words "jumped" in her first year at school. At her insistence, we decided to take her to the eye doctor who prescribed her glasses. What a relief for everyone! The girl did not read well because she simply needed glasses! The nightmare is over! Unfortunately, in a few weeks we saw how that bad dream had not only disappeared (some teachers even defined it as silly and vague), but that it was still there despite the fact that Ashley used her new lenses responsibly.
Subsequent eye tests performed by a new ophthalmologist showed that he should not even have worn glasses. "

Ashley's life is similar to that of many others dyslexic children. Before starting school, I was a cheerful and optimistic girl. A short time later, the school problems caused her self-esteem to plummet and she ended up enclosing herself in her own world and submerging herself in a depression difficult to explain in such a small girl.

In that despair, and after going to the most varied specialists (like many other families with dyslexic children Ashley's parents paid courses of more than 3,000 euros), one day they discovered an article in an English newspaper about ChromaGen lenses, a haploscopic filter that allows to "control the movement" of words.

Obviously, after having tried practically everything and having obtained such poor results, they did not hesitate to start looking for these lenses. "At present, these types of filters are distributed in many countries around us, France, the United States, England, are some of them," says Nicol, mother of Ashley, enthusiastically. "There are no words to express the joy we feel and the emotion that my daughter's gaze conveyed to us when she found the right combination of colors for her ... After a little test her face lit up and she said: Mom, the words have stuck to the paper! "

ChromaGen is not a cure but ...

It was then that Ashley was able to explain to her parents for the first time how she saw the words before: the "T" head, the "A" was "V" and when others said 22 she saw "TT". Nicole, do not doubt it. Since Ashley uses her filters they have acquired a small notion of what the little girl has suffered over the past few years.

"Given the difficulties that the girl had when reading," Nicole continues, "in her first years of study she had no choice but to struggle to adapt, in fact Ashley had come up with a new alphabet to try to follow her classes. on the other hand, he spent practically trying to focus on letters that did not stay still.

At last we have been able to understand many things about dyslexia. One of them is that, indeed, the girl did need glasses but not for astigmatism or myopia but simply, apparently, to compensate for a deficiency of color or light. Now, although it's not a definitive cure for dyslexia (the dysfunction is still there) thanks to ChromaGen, it sees the words without moving. Not only is it easier to read and write, but also to follow the reading without skipping words and lines, not repeating. In short, these new lenses have opened the doors to a new world: to understand what you are reading and therefore, to be able to learn. "

What is ChromaGen?

ChromaGen are filters created in 1997 by David Harris with which it was intended to improve vision for patients with difficulty in distinguishing colors.
After using the ChromaGen system with these patients and having achieved great success, it was decided to try them in people who, in addition to being colorblind, were also dyslexic. To the surprise of the research team, like Ashley, children who returned after weeks to perform new tests, not only found that they could distinguish between colors and tones, but also read and write more fluently.

What some famous dyslexics remember

- In general, the school discouraged me a lot. It was not pleasant to feel overwhelmed by the others in such a strong way and to stay behind at the very beginning of the race. (Winston Churchill).
- He told me that his teachers stated that he was mentally slow, unsociable and constantly wandering in his stupid dreams. (Hans Albert Einstein, referring to his father, Albert Einstein.
- My teachers say that I have a confused mind ... my father thought I was stupid, and I almost convinced myself that I had to be a jackass. (Thomas Edison)
