School reinforcement: when children need reinforcement classes

Many parents ask ourselves if they really need the private classes of tutoring. But as the first quarter progresses and we see that the grades our children bring are not good or they start to have suspended subjects, it is when we think it is convenient to make a decision about school reinforcement.

What students need school reinforcement?

Experts recommend the classes of tutoring from 10 years (in the second or third year of Primary).

If the student has learning problems that affect between 5% and 10/15% of the students, such as dyslexia and attention deficit with or without hyperactivity (ADHD), these are the most diagnosed disorders, then it will be important start a reeducation and / or tutoring from the first Primary courses.

In Secondary, the profile of the students changes being more advisable school reinforcement classes in a study center, academy or with a private teacher, because it is when students have greater difficulty to follow certain subjects such as mathematics, languages, the tongue, etc.

According to the experience of the academic centers and the private teachers, at the beginning of the course they have more Primary than Secondary students, but at the end of the first term if the students receive bad grades, the number of students increases from the last courses of Primary and Secondary schools that need reinforcement to improve their results.

Keys to choose the ideal school reinforcement

1. Meet with the tutor. Before taking drastic solutions like putting punishments of not going out with friends, forcing them to study more time, not watching television, etc. It is very important to meet with the tutor of the school to assess which subjects are the most necessary to reinforce and coordinate how to do it. If possible, it is also important that our son / daughter intervenes in this tutoring.

Through the exchange of impressions of the progress of the course, the tutor / a can provide us if necessary also improve the organization and planning of the study of the different subjects, according to the school agenda.

2. Choose a private teacher who has the training and the pedagogical resources necessary to impart the reinforcement. At logistical level we will consider if it is better to move to our home or the child comes to his. Many students prefer teachers to be young.

3. Choose between academy or private classes. Assess whether it is more advisable to attend a study center or academy to group or individual classes. If they are in a group they should be reduced. Group classes can be beneficial if our children are a little shy and introverted, since by interacting with other reinforcement partners it can help them to better socialize.

4. Motivation. We will have to make them understand that they should not take tutoring as a punishment for not getting good grades. We must avoid that they are not discouraged or that their self-esteem is lowered, as well as that they are not compared with other classmates who achieve higher grades.

Our children, apart from dedicating themselves to their school obligations, also need free time to practice sports, other activities, hobbies and interact with friends and colleagues.

Not getting the notes we expect does not mean that they should give up their free time and leisure, because it is necessary that they have their moments of rest and change of activities that can also provide good learning.
