Main tips to prevent sudden infant death SIDS

Currently, 3,500 children die in the United States during sleep a year and 90 percent of cases occur in children under 6 months, and although the frequency increases between the first and fourth months of life.

The recommendation to sleep on your back is a measure that has been shown to decrease the risk of sudden infant death. But, currently there are new recommendations to make baby's sleep safer. Precisely, the ones that strike the most are now do not share the bed and the quality of the resting surface (mattress).

And is that although you have the idea that soft mattresses protect babies better, they have the risk of suffocation. In the same way it happens when sharing the bed: it increases the risk of crushing and suffocation. The same happens when sleeping on a sofa with another person.

The three basic rules of sleep for the baby should be:

to. that sleeps only
b. sleep on your back
c. in a bed or cradle ordered.

The Breastfeeding reduces sudden infant death by 50% so it is a fundamental recommendation, as well as the use of a pacifier once breastfeeding is perfectly established.

The AAP also retains recommendations for outside the house, such as placement in a stroller or car seat to sleep instead of in a bassinet.
