Can nausea really be good in pregnancy?

Nausea and vomiting are very frequent discomfort during the pregnancy. Despite how difficult it is to endure, a recent investigation shows that they can be beneficial to protect the baby from external aggressions.

A study conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) The United States has confirmed that there is a protective relationship between nausea and vomiting suffered by the mother during pregnancy and the lower risk of miscarriage. It also shows that these discomforts protect the fetus against pathogens and toxins present in food and beverages.

Broad spectrum study

The results of the work have been published in the JAMA magazine Internal Medicine. It involved 797 women who were or had been pregnant (188 of the respondents had suffered an abortion). Of all of them, 57.3 percent reported nausea between the second and eighth week of pregnancy, a percentage that was 26.6 percent in the case of nausea with vomiting.

The authors of the research observed that women who manifested these symptoms had between 50 and 75 percent less likely to lose the developing fetus, compared to those who did not have any nausea or nausea accompanied by threw up.
