28% of children between 5 and 12 years old do not use a special chair in the car

Do we take our children correctly in the car? According to the Study of Road Safety Habits of Parents and Children in the Car elaborated by Midas, there are many minors who are not safe in the vehicles either because they do not use a safety seat for the car adapted to their weight and age, or because the habits of families are not the most appropriate when they transport their children.

More than half of children fasten themselves

In order to know the level of safety with which children travel within cars, this study conducted a total of 50 surveys to parents between 25 and 54 years old and to children between 5 and 12 whose parents usually drive. The purpose of this research was to find out the habits of families within the cars.


Of the results obtained, it is surprising first of all that 28% of the children between 5 and 12 years old did not use a special chair when it was time to ride a bicycle. car. However, it must be clarified that from the age of 9 it is possible for a minor to exceed 135 centimeters, height from which it is not mandatory.
In any case, at least 14% of children under the age of 9 do not use a special chair when going in the car.

17% of parents talk on the phone while driving

A relevant fact for security is that 17% of the children surveyed said they had seen their parents use the mobile phone while driving. 37% of children have also seen their parents make some call while the vehicle was stopped.


Of course, as for the seatbelt it seems that it is predicated by example as 97% of children respond positively when asked if the adults with whom they travel they use this measure.

It is striking that in the 70% of cases, both parents and children have claimed to have experienced an episode of stress on the road as a result of a dangerous situation. A probability that increases in three out of 10 respondents who claim to have shouted or made an ugly gesture while driving their vehicle.

The entry and exit of the vehicle is another issue that has touched this study. According to the data of Road Safety Habits of Parents and Children in the Car, eight out of ten children enter the car without help from their parents and 58% abandon it on their own.

Safety in school zones

Road Safety Habits of Parents and Children in the Car has also wanted to find out the measures that parents take around school zones and how they behave when they go to pick up their children at school. 75% of participating children answered positively when asked if their parents picked them up at the door and they accompanied them up to the car. Six out of ten children say that they go to the car alone and that they place their safety device.
