Competences that digital natives no longer develop and that they should learn

The new technologies are us have simplified many daily tasks. They put people in contact around the world, they provide information on the spot, they make work and study easier, they are some of the most obvious advantages.

However, they also bring with them some problems derived from everything we have stopped doing so analog. Some skills that were previously learned in everyday life, have stopped practicing with the emergence of screens. If we want our children to acquire skills that will be useful to them, these are some of the activities they should practice:

Activities to teach digital natives

1. Write letters. Nothing excites more than receiving a handwritten letter. However with the new technologies it happens less and less. Encourage children to write a missive for family members or friends who live far away they will help them to master the handwriting and they will also brighten the day to those who receive them.

2. To draw. Facing a blank sheet and giving it content fosters the imagination unfortunately fewer and fewer children use. With the drawing they are not only entertaining themselves but they also work fine psychomotor skills, they develop their imagination and they enhance the artistic taste.

3. Wrap a gift. The Internet offers today the possibility of buying something and reaching the recipient without having passed through the hands of the person who gives it away. And most stores facilitate the option of wrapping what is purchased. Almost nobody takes the trouble to prepare beautiful packages. Encouraging the little ones to pick up paper and cover the gifts for their relatives as well as encouraging the mobility of their hands, is a good activity to share with the family.

4. Crafts. Too much time in front of a computer screen, a tablet or television, subtract opportunities for children to enjoy with crafts. Just as drawing facing something that does not exist and creating it from materials will encourage your imagination as well as strengthen family ties in an activity that can be carried out by all members of the household.

5. Stay with friends. New technologies allow 24 hour contact with colleagues. However, sometimes this causes interpersonal relationships to become fictitious, always mediated by networks. If we want our children to foster healthy friendships, we have to give them the opportunity to meet in person. Many times it will require our effort to take them somewhere or to open the doors of the house. But it is worth it because in this way they will create very strong links with your circle and learn the emotional skills they need.
