62% of grandparents acknowledge financially helping their families

One of the fundamental figures of the family structure today are the grandparents. Cooperating financially with your family does not matter to them, even though the pension is not very comfortable. In fact, according to a MetLife survey, 34% of grandparents believe that this gesture will have negative effects on their economic security. Specifically, 62% of grandparents acknowledge providing financial assistance to their family and 1 in 10 recognizes assiduous care of their grandchildren.

The lives of the elderly have changed over the years. Life expectancy, technological advances, health or even the way of life has been transformed. But his role in the family is still fundamental, and his position is very important for his children and grandchildren.

Today, July 26, is celebrated in Spain World Grandparents Day. It is one of those dates that almost go unnoticed, possibly for falling in summer. Why the July 26? Because in the catholic calendar is celebrated the day of San Joaquin and Santa Ana, the grandparents of Jesus Christ. Hence, this day has been chosen.

How does it affect grandparents to help their family financially?

The grandparents of today continue to suppose an essential support in the care of their grandchildren, offering advice and moral support and of course, providing financial help. Pensions are increasingly cut, but this does not mean a change in their generosity.

Surprisingly, our elders are very optimistic about the future of their grandchildren. Specifically, 67% believe that their grandchildren will have at least the same level of life as them. The reasons: the ease of credit, access to a good education and influence and family support. The most pessimistic blame external factors such as economy, politics or society for their negative outlook.

They also believe that the grandchildren will follow their wake with strong values, assuming positive roles and providing strong family support. Precisely the importance of the transmission of values is a subject of great importance for them. In the ranking of values that they consider very important, honesty ranks first (88%), followed by good behavior (82%), self-sufficiency (70%), achieving higher education (69%) and the practice of healthy habits (68%).

In short, grandparents are increasingly becoming a fundamental pillar in the structure of the family unit providing financial resources and support and moral advice to the members of the same.

How to thank the grandparents for everything they do for the family?

1. Respect your freedom and your time: as a reward deserved for everything they have done throughout their lives. That is, give priority to the personal enjoyment of grandparents so they can spend their time on what they like the most. Otherwise they may fall into chronic exhaustion.

2. Magical words: There are a series of words that should be pronounced more frequently. Thank you, I love you and please, they are words that increase the receiver's self-esteem. In this way they feel more loved and valued. Of course, it is essential to include grandparents in family celebrations, to make them feel an active part of the family.

3. Kisses and hugs: This is the greatest gift we can give to the elders of the family. To make grandparents feel loved and valued, it is important that grandchildren are also aware of them, call them by phone, share time with them, etc.
