Spain already registers more deaths than births

For a few decades, our country has been facing the serious problem of declining birth rates. Over the past few years, couples have postponed the decision to bring a child into the world over time. The age at which women give birth to their first child is increasingly late, and has been recently marked by the difficult economic crisis that Spain has experienced and that has made fewer people financially able to face paternity.

This fact also influences the possibility that couples have more children, sometimes a second child is considered, but a third is almost impossible. In this way, the generational change, having at least two children to replace the parents, seems a very difficult task. Finally, this decline in the Spanish birth rate has ended up leading to a situation of negative growth, that is, more deaths than births occur at our borders.

Births that decrease, deaths that increase

As can be seen in the data provided by the National Institute of Statistics, INE, in its latest report on population movements make it very clear: the births in Spain have decreased again while the deaths increased in such a way that they ended up overcome births. A situation that our country did not live on since the Civil War.

The INE notes that while births decreased by 2%, deaths increased by 6.7% producing a difference of 4.7 percentage points. In particular, in Spain a total of 419,109 children were born during 2015, that is, 8,486 births less than in the previous year. If compared with the 2008 data when 519,779 births were registered, the reduction was 19'4 percentage points.

For its part Spain registered a total of 422,276 deaths, which represents a growth of 6.7% compared to 2014. If we compare the data on deaths and births in our borders, we observe that a total of 2,753 deaths were registered more than births. This has meant that our country registers a negative vegetative balance.

Fewer children and women of childbearing age

The data of the INE also reveal that the average to which women choose to be mothers It has been delayed up to 31'9 years, the most advanced age in the last decade. This data is more worrying if we observe the reduction of fertile women, that is to say that they are between 15 and 49 years old since Spain has also registered its lowest data in this sense of the last decade and there are only 10'8 million potential mothers .

Fortunately, the INE data also bring good newsRelated to birth: women in our country have more children than before. In 2015, the average number of children per woman was 1.33, while in 2014 this number was 1.32. This increase is more significant when compared to 2013 where the average stood at 1.32.

Conciliation, pending issue in today's society

To the financial situation of our country is also added another factor that makes it difficult for couples to opt for motherhood. The fact that both parents and parents have a difficult time combining the upbringing of a child and a job makes them think twice about bringing a child to this world if they are going to have a hard time enjoying it and raising it properly.

As the report of the report reveals MásFamilia Foundation 61% of companies do not include work-life balance in their company policy. Another worrying fact related to conciliation is that working mothers only spend 54 minutes a day with their children, not even an hour in total of the 24 that have any day.
