5 ideas to pass in September and enjoy the summer

This summer will be the last one in which the students of the E.S.O. and Baccalaureate have to study in these months of heat and vacation. The 2016-2017 period brings one of the most important changes in years: there will be no call for September to recover the pending subjects, the course ends in June. For the last students to recover, here are 5 ideas to pass in September and enjoy the summer.

Advantages of the change from September to June

This change has many advantages for both families and students that are summarized in an access to the university with the same opportunities, reduction of the costs of the summer academies, all students can enjoy their summer vacation and expected that the probabilities of approval are greater.

So, even this summer, good planning is essential to find the balance between study time and leisure, allowing you to rest from exams and enjoy your holidays. This is the first advice from Ana Herero, coordinator of the Guidance Departments of the Brains International Schools.

Why is it important to enjoy summer vacations?

For students of Secondary and Baccalaureate, who have suspended one or more subjects, begins a time trial study to pass the exams recovery in September, or a time of reinforcement work for Elementary students with failures or low performance in some learning area.

The embarrassment, the sun and the many leisure opportunities of summer become the worst enemies of all those students who have to study during the summer. "The summer and the months of holidays are the best reward for the students for their work during the year", explains Ana Herrero, coordinator of the Guidance Departments of Brains International Schools.

It is important that children can disconnect from school to return to it with more strength and energy. Otherwise, the school will start with the feeling of not having rested and this may negatively affect school performance. Therefore, finishing the exams in September and moving them to June is a great step for Spanish education and, above all, for students to enjoy summer

5 ideas to combine leisure and study in summer

1. Analysis and definition of the problem. Children and parents have to analyze what the causes of failure have been: bad study management, misunderstanding of the concepts of the subject or that the subject has simply been suspended for not dedicating enough time or effort. Knowing the causes, the problem can be remedied by placing special emphasis where the child has failed.

2. Planning and establishing a routine. Planning is key to managing study time and leisure time. In summer children spend more time to have fun, but this can interfere with their daily organization, leaving for the last weeks of summer the arduous task of studying all subjects. Therefore, it is advisable to take a daily routine throughout the summer, dedicating the last weeks of August to refresh the knowledge for the exams.

3. Support and positive reinforcement of parents. If the child is aware of his responsibility in the suspense, it is important to reward the effort of studying during the summer. If the student feels supported by his family and this encourages him not to stop studying, he will not see the study as a punishment, but as a necessary effort so that the next year he will do better in school. In addition, the bad experience will make the following year more effort during the course to avoid having to spend another summer studying.

4. Invest the right time. There has to be a balance between study time and leisure time. Even if more than one subject has been suspended, or there are many homework assignments scheduled for September, there is always time to enjoy and relax. It is important to ensure that the child is responsible for doing their tasks and, in addition, efficiently without wasting time. A very effective resource is to assign times to each task and congratulate the children if they finish each task in the established time.

5. Take advantage of family time. The vacations serve so that the child rests and takes forces facing the new course that is coming, but also to enjoy the parents or the grandparents and the plans that they can do together, without haste. It is essential to dedicate quality time to children and do things with them that will serve to strengthen the relationship and create the best memories. As a family we can learn many things in the holidays in a fun, creative, exciting ... Travel, contact and observation of nature, sports, interacting with other people and in other contexts, knowing different cultural manifestations, parties, etc., are also learning experiences, as important or more than all those duties and subjects pending for September in the process of training as people.

"Keep in mind that summer is a time that families dedicate to be together, enjoy each other and rest, so if one of the children has suspended a subject, or several is important to avoid this suspense suppose a point of conflict during the holidays"says Ana Herrero, coordinator of the Guidance Departments of the Brains International Schools."If the children feel responsible for their failure, the family has to support them and make a positive reinforcement to ensure that the bad results obtained in June are reversed in September, while still enjoying shared leisure", he points out.
