France may fine parents by publishing photos of their children online

The fashion of uploading photos of children, when they are small, to social networks could be about to end if other countries join the French restrictions. And is that publishing the first photo of the baby on social networks sitting in his potty or with his first tantrum ... already has a fine in France, provided that the children feel injured and come to denounce their parents for this reason.

So in France, children can already sue their parents for posting their photos on social networks. The French authorities will be ableimpose fines of up to 45,000 euros and one year in prison for publishing intimate photos of their children on social networks without permission.

The privacy of children in social networks

The protection of minors through a strict application of privacy laws is a more obvious reality, which according to some sources is very necessary due to the proliferation of this type of activities by parents, which in the future They can lead to cases of bullying or be used by someone who wants to usurp the identity of the child, for example.

According to a study published in 2015 by the Internet company Nominet, parents in the United Kingdom they publish nearly 200 photographs of their under-fives on social networks every year, which means that a child will have approximately a total of 1,000 shared photos online before the age of five.

It is still difficult to determine the extent of the real consequences of publishing that number of photographs of children under 5 years of age in social networks, since its implementation is very recent, but maintaining the chronological growth of children in social networks has created a concern about your right to privacy.

17% of parents do not configure their privacy on Facebook

In general, when parents share photographs of their children on Facebook, Instagram or any other social network, they think that they are offering it to their group of friends, that is, to an average of between 50 and 200 people. However, a recent study conducted by Nominet revealed that the 17% of parents had never checked their Facebook privacy settings.

This idea of sharing photos is beneficial to maintain ties of union between relatives who live far away, for example, but in some cases it has become an obsession for parents, that in every sports competition or awards ceremony, we see how they unfold a sea phones in the stands.
