80% of new parents assume roles previously linked to mothers

The relationship of parents in the day to day with their children has changed in the last decades. Some roles traditionally linked to mothers, such as changing diapers, feeding children, playing actively with their children or taking them for a walk are now also tasks of the parents, according to an analysis carried out by the Coaching Club company.

Currently, 4 out of 5 new parents already assume roles traditionally linked to mothers, such as bathing, walking, feeding or changing diapers.

The relationship between parents and children has changed

The traditional model of parent-child relationship has changed as reflected in the survey. According to Verónica Rodríguez, Director of Coaching Club, "the family model responded to a topic of family life where the father who worked full time in the labor market and the mother was exclusively dedicated to the care of children and household activities (food, cleaning, shopping) This paradigm has been modified until it almost disappeared and, in any case, it is no longer the predominant modality ".

Society is already going through the change towards a new model of paternity. Without ceasing to be the "symbolic guarantor of the family", the father begins to be more present in the area of sentimentality and in the education of children.

New new parents begin to assume parenting tasks traditionally assigned to mothers, but they are also making important progress in terms of the quality time they share with their children. "There is a flexibility in the idea of the paternal function, not only is it necessary to establish order and discipline, but it is essential that you share the education of your children." Changing a diaper, for example, does not blur his authority, but rather it reinforces it ", explains Verónica Rodríguez.

The male aesthetics of fatherhood

To make new parents feel more comfortable in raising their children, brands are changing the aesthetics of some items for baby care and they are even creating products adapted to male tastes so that new parents feel more comfortable . So there are already new products designed for men as a portapañales with space to attach technology (headphones, etc.), special books designed for dads and, in general, a male aesthetic in accessories that pursue the goal of making them more comfortable with the care of their babies.

According to the survey of men between 25 and 45 years old, 97% agree that parents are involved in the care of children much more than in other times and 90% say that gender roles are not so strict and tight as in other eras and that men have more "permission" to be more sensitive, as well as women to be more strict.

Greater emotional approach between parents and children

Regarding games, parents are increasingly aware that the game reinforces the bond with their baby, imposing their language and a more active dynamic, where there is often competition, winners, traps and strategies. In this way, an emotional relationship is developed that reinforces the bond and trust between them.

The bath is another special moment to strengthen ties, which before was only linked to mothers. During the bath, it is possible to stimulate the children with games, talks, caresses and pampering, something that new parents also begin to enjoy.

In addition, with paternity there is also a feeling of empathy and complicity towards the acknowledgment of the parenting work carried out by the mother and the rest of the family members involved in the care of the baby.
