New Ford S-Max: smart features
The new Ford S-Max is presented as a seven-seater MPV that reappears with a full complement of intelligent solutions to make the driving.
During the past summer, Ford has put on sale -from 26,950 euros- the new generation of the S-Max minivan, with a body of 4.80 meters and capacity for seven passengers. In addition, it appears with a complete equipment to increase their security conditions and eminently practical driving aid solutions.
The S-Max is a genuine family car that allows up to 32 combinations between seating possibilities and modular spaces for loading. Account with three rows of seats: the conventional front of two, a second of three wide and comfortable and a third row not so wide of two. The system allows the rear seats to be folded down at the touch of a button on the control panel and those in the second row have easy access to accommodate the third row with a single touch. Those responsible for the brand have put so much interest in the family character of this model that ensure that interior materials of upholstery are prepared to withstand the wear generated by the daily use of a family: has anti-stain coatings, durability tests, simulating even the effect of rubbing with zippers and rivets.
On the outside, the S-Max has evolved to offer a more dynamic image. It proposes a new sculpted of its front, which has been delayed, to create a wider hood, and has been equipped with LED daytime running lights.
Respectful emissions
The new S-Maxs are available with TDCi Diesel and EcoBoost gasoline engines. The 2.0-liter TDCi with variable geometry turbo injection is available in 120, 150 and 180 horsepower, combined with a six-speed manual transmission. They will also feature the 2.0-liter twin turbo 210 horsepower. The 150 hp and 180 hp models of the S-Max with 2.0-liter TDCi engine will be available with six-speed Powershift automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, which allows a smooth transition between front and all-wheel drive to improve it and increase grip on the road .
Gasoline engine options include the new 1.5-liter EcoBoost 160 horsepower with manual gearbox and also the 2.0-liter Ford EcoBoost 240 horsepower engine with six-speed automatic transmission.
Smart aids
The new S-Max is the first Ford vehicle in the world to equip the Intelligent Speed Limiter, a new technology that detects traffic signals and adjusts the speed of the vehicle to avoid it exceeding the legal limits of speed and the resulting fines.
But it is not the only system of this type of equipment, as it offers up to twenty new technologies and is also the first with Dynamic Led headlights with long lights that do not dazzle and Ford Adaptive Driving, which allows better visibility and driving dynamics. The long lights do not dazzle, they work by attenuating the light that can dazzle other drivers. This technology works in collaboration with the Dynamic Led headlamps with Adaptive Front Lighting, which can adjust the angle and intensity of the light beam in seven different configurations according to the speed, ambient light, angle of rotation, distance to the nearest vehicle and the windshield wiper activation. In addition, a camera mounted on the windshield detects vehicles approaching a distance of up to 800 meters, and the system uses filters to block certain paths of light.
Another new system is Adaptive Management for facilitate maneuvers at reduced speed and in small spaces. The system constantly adjusts the ratio between the steering wheel and the wheels in three scenarios: Urban speed: a motor and electric gear system are added to the movements of the driver's wheel to be necessary fewer turns to park or bend closed curves. Average speed: the system reacts smoothly to the turns while maintaining an agile response that increases maneuvering precision. Motorway speed: the system uses the electric motor to reduce the rotational sensitivity and effect some softer lane changes and a more relaxed driving.
