Egg labeling: 30% already recognizes it

A little over a year ago, the results of the first "Huevometer" surprised with the fact that only 2 percent of Spanish consumers understood the meaning of the code printed on the egg shell. In addition, 7 out of 10 people were unaware of the existence of norms that regulate their production.

For this reason, the campaign "The egg, label" It was proposed to explain to consumers the characteristics of the production of eggs in the European Union to facilitate the choice of those that best suit your preferences.

The egg information, closer to the consumer

As a novelty, the conclusions of the second wave of the "Huevómetro" survey have shown that the campaign has been successful, since the knowledge and social perception of the European Production Model has been improved. Now, almost 10 percent more consumers say they know the existence of standards that guarantee food safety and sustainability in the production of chicken eggs.

On the other hand, the number of people who relate the printed code in the egg shell with the production system and the farm from which it comes has also increased by 30 percent.

In one year, consumers who insure buying eggs for the quality of the food and for the complete information offered by the labeling have increased. In this sense, in the Autonomous Communities where "El huevo, de etique" has held informative meetings, there are more people who look at the label and who know how to identify the egg production system.

Egg Week

The Egg Week, which takes place from October 5 to 9, contains a calendar with different activities in different Spanish cities. The mascots of the campaign will visit several markets to answer the doubts of consumers about the production and commercialization of eggs in the European Union and on the 8th, in addition, the prizes will be awarded to the best recipe and to the best audiovisual work on "The egg, label. "

Egg Week ends on October 9, World Egg Day, and aims to offer consumers more knowledge about this food, its marking and labeling. The actions of the campaign "The egg, of label", co-financed by the European Union and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, makes visible the work of the sector and its commitment to sustainability. The meetings between producers and consumers and students, as well as the delivery of informative material, make it possible for citizens to maintain an ongoing dialogue with the campaign through social networks and the web.

The protagonists and spokespersons of the campaign are the professionals of the sector among which are producers, veterinarians, nutritionists, quality technicians, personnel classification ... among others. In informative meetings with consumers and students, and in the videos available on the campaign website, they explain their work in the farms and packing centers, demonstrating their commitment to the rules on food safety, respect for the environment, welfare and health animal. In this way, they guarantee fresh and safe eggs from the farm to the consumer, as well as sustainable production.
