Large families exceed half a million in Spain
Large families in Spain reach almost half a million, in a country where due to the decline in birth rates and, if the trend continues, there will be no generational change. According to the latest data collected by the INE, the drop in births has occurred for the fifth consecutive year, with only 425,390 new children, 6.4 percent less than the previous year.

- Children. The average number of children in large families is 3.4 children and the majority are of school age. The average age of the firstborn is 13 years and that of the small one is 6 years.
- Parents. Large family parents have an average of 43 years and most have university studies (62.9 percent in the case of mothers and 56.4 percent in the case of parents).
- Work. They do it 87.6 percent
- Income. 43.2 percent of families enter between 1,500 and 3,000 euros each month.
- Savings. The savings capacity of these families is less than the rest. Only 20.3 percent of these households save something every month, compared to 31 percent of the rest of households. The vast majority of families, 42 percent come just at the end of the month and one in three must resort to savings to meet all monthly expenses.
- Civil status. Marriage is the majority in large families, since 89.9 percent are married. 4.6 lives with a partner and 3.4 percent is separated or divorced.
- Living place. 67 percent of large families live in a flat with a mortgage and only 17 percent of families have a mortgage already paid.
- Disability In 9.8 percent of households with a large family there is a child with a disability, the main cause being a psychic disorder (54.3 percent).
