Educate the sense of taste from small to children
Babies tend to be very worried about taste new flavors. We must take advantage of this potential so that they do not later reject some foods such as fruit and vegetables, which are so important in children's nutrition due to their high content of fiber, vitamins and minerals.
How the sense of taste evolves in children
The sense of taste evolves very quickly in the first months of the child's life. In the same way that your ear learns to recognize what you hear and thanks to it you will also learn to speak, or begin to distinguish the objects you see to identify them with words, the same will happen to you with the path that leads you to differentiate the food of what is not eaten.
In fact, instinctively, babies tend to take everything to their mouths. It is one of the great concerns of parents, who fear that they suck something harmful to health. But this same aspect that can be negative for your health, is extraordinarily positive for your education, that is, to learn to eat and educate your sense of taste.
The restlessness of children to try everything that falls into their hands is key to teach them the different flavors and get used to them. This does not mean that we skip the medical criteria for the introduction of food, which are very useful for locating possible allergies and that are usually adapted to the functioning capacity of the baby's stomach. The important thing is that we offer them the best possible combination of flavors within the appropriate food introduction tables according to the age of the child.
A wide range of different flavors and textures: the sense of taste in children
Similar nutritional values can be achieved with products with very different flavors. In this way, we will achieve not only flavors but also different textures that, taken from the earliest childhood, will be habitual to the palate of babies and children.
This greatly simplifies meals when we reach a much more conflictive stage in children, the NO stage, which happens around a year and a half. From then on, with some exceptions, children tend to show little support for trying new flavors, so that what has not been done before is more difficult to achieve later.
Complementary feeding: purees and solid foods
In the stage of complementary feeding without solids, the system can be applied whether we use prepared food, the famous baby food, as if we cook at home and prepare the purées and baby food for our baby.
Prepared food has greatly increased its offer in recent years, with different ranges, multiple flavors and even specific textures for each age. At home, the secret is that the puree of vegetables with meat can vary from chicken with carrots to stew with lamb through the diverse cast that the market offers.
It is also important that little by little they introduce solid foods so that the change does not involve trauma. The concern in this aspect usually focuses on the risks of suffocation when the baby has swallowed something. But there are some foods that break down quickly, others that do not fall apart easily, and for those who may pose a danger, you can use a few nets that allow you to extract the juice without large pieces to the baby's mouth.
