Virtual chat rooms to promote good Internet use

'Connected' and 'Connected as a family' are two virtual yincanas launched by the Foundation for Help Against Drug Addiction (FAD) and Google. Both are aimed at adolescents between 14 and 16 years old and their families and they aim to make them reflect on the importance of using new technologies and the Internet responsibly.

The main messages that will be transmitted to young people through this initiative are those that are often repeated, but not less important or more internalized: the need to learn to manage privacy not providing personal data to strangers, not contributing to spread humiliating contents, take care of language, to learn the value of intellectual property on the internet or reflect on the contents that are shared on social networks.

Objectives of the yincana

1.- Provide adolescents with an opportunity to critical reflection on the use of new technologies and the Internet

2.- Promote positive values associated with a proper use of the Internet and technologies

Human robot

The two yincanas follow the same structure: they count the story of a robot which, as it advances and passes tests, it is becoming human; a creative idea that starts "from the conviction that the responsible use of new technologies it means being able to control and manage the use that is made of them ", according to the organizers.

The yincanas are available from this week until October 30. Young people and their families only need to register in Connected or Connected as a Family. Once enrolled, they will have to overcome a series of tests grouped by thematic areas: the protection of the privacy of Internet content, the need to question the reliability of the information we find on the Internet, the social relationships generated in the digital environment and the way to promote good practices and the responsible use of Internet.

Each participant must pass each of the tests, at the end of which you are offered the possibility of obtaining a "bonus" score if you pass an optional supplementary test.

Awards for the good use of the Internet

The final score will depend on the time spent and the answers obtained in each test. The ten participants with the highest score in each of the yincanas will receive a technological prize: a tablet, which will be delivered in Madrid in December of this year. To see the possibilities that the user has to win the prize, on the web there is a section with the provisional classification.
