The new Touran, among the safest in Europe

The new Volkswagen Touran has reached the highest score in the independent Euro NCAP safety tests. The latest generation of the popular family minivan has achieved five star rating, which places it as one of the safest vehicles in Europe, since it has achieved the maximum score for the versions of five and seven places. Passengers and pedestrians have excellent protection in the event of an accident.

What do Euro NCAP safety tests assess?

Euro NCAP evaluates in its tests four main aspects: occupant protection for adults, occupant protection for children, pedestrian protection and safety assistance. Euro NCAP is considered one of the most important references in vehicle safety in Europe. This year, the test conditions were even tougher and the new Touran passed the demanding Euro NCAP tests with excellent results, thanks, among other things, to a first-class safety package consisting of an optimized body structure, a combination highly effective belt, seat and airbag, and innovative driver assistance systems.

During the exhaustive safety examination of adult passengers, the new Touran received 88% of the maximum score after undergoing the following tests: frontal impact at 64 km / h against a deformable barrier on 40% of the front surface of the car; frontal impact at 50 km / h against a rigid barrier on 100% of the frontal surface; lateral impact at 50 km / h against the lateral structure of the vehicle; and lateral impact at 32 km / h against a pole.

Excellent results in the child protection test

The new family minivan, which was subjected to the latest tests in its versions of 5 and 7 seats, also achieved excellent results in the important section of child protection. Thanks to the ISOFIX series anchors and top tether for children's chairs, the new Touran added 89% of the possible points.

In the pedestrian protection section, the Touran received a total score of 71%. Here, Touran's design details that reduce the risk of injury to passers-by were particularly appreciated.

The new Volkswagen Touran has a large number of safety elements as standard. Among them, are the airbags for the driver and the passenger (with deactivation for the latter and including knee airbag on the driver's side) and a head airbag system for front and rear passengers, including side airbags. In addition, it has optimized headrests that minimize the risk of whiplash in the event of a rear-end collision, as well as safety belt indicators for all seats.

The new Touran also incorporates as standard systems such as the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with assistance in counter-steering, ABS with Braking Assistant, the Multiple Anti-collision Braking System, Tire Pressure Control and Driver Fatigue Detector.
