Shopping for back to school, on holidays

The vast majority of Spanish parents choose to do the shopping for the dreaded 'back to school' during the holidays. Specifically, 71.3 percent of Spaniards say so, according to a study by the online fashion outlet Privalia.

To carry out this analysis, the authors of the surveys have taken as a sample Spanish families with children under 18 years of age, that is, those whose children are more likely to be go back to school in September.

Also, the study has observed where Spanish families buy the materials for the school year. At this point, it has been found that although most of the Spaniards continue shopping in large stores, online commerce is increasing more and more. Specifically, this option has become the second most mentioned by schoolchildren, followed by retail establishments.

Online shopping

This is also related to another of the data that is extracted from the survey: 60 percent of the respondents turn to the outlets 'online' during shopping, especially looking for clothes (97.1%), footwear (80%), sports equipment (52.9%) and school material (34.3%).

In addition, according to this survey, half of the respondents choose to make the purchases of the return to schoolOne month in advance, that is, on vacation, because he meets greater offer in large stores and stores.

Discounts

In this sense, the study reveals that 65.7 percent of families buy in outlet stores 'online' because they find important and interesting discounts. They also highlight the ease and convenience when buying and the option of home delivery as other reasons.

And it is that to look at the discounts it becomes very important both for those who have a child and for those who have more: the return to school is very feared by parents precisely because of the significant increase in spending on children.

According to this same study, Spaniards will invest an average ofe between 600 and 1,000 euros per child, a figure from which, if we discount the books (for different discounts and grants from the administrations), it remains quite high for the pockets of the families.

Expense per child

In this regard, according to another study prepared by the Valencian Association of Consumers and Users (Avacu), the majority of families (60%) foreseen spending between 300 and 700 euros per child in the purchase campaign of school supplies for the new course at school.

This survey also revealed that 14 percent of parents anticipated an even more important outlay: between 700 and 1,400 euros per child, figures significantly higher than the previous year.

The study, that divides its results by school stages, indicates that in all of them the average of expenditure is between the 300 and 700 euros, although in the case of children's courses 12 percent of respondents have a forecast of more than 1,000 euros, while parents of children in Secondary believe that the disbursement will be around 700 euros.

In this regard, 82 percent of parents identifiedto textbooks as the main expense of going back to school. Far behind are other expenses such as uniforms and school supplies, as well as other clothes for school.

Reuse of books

The reuse of books is a good method for save on these important expenses annual However, more than 75 percent of the Valencian respondents said they could not use textbooks from other years, a percentage that is considerably higher than in 2014, when this statement was made by 67 percent.

According to the makers of the survey, this increase in negatives to the possibility of using old books may be due to the change introduced to consequence of the Lomce, which has forced to change the textbooks.

Thus, only 28.2 percent of respondents say that in their school there are initiatives aimed at the reuse of books of previous yearss, percentage that is lower than the one of the last course, when it was 43 percent.
