Almost half of parents modify their working conditions for their children

The arrival of the children completely changes the life of the parents. Not only do they have a being in their charge and their thinking goes practically only to them, but many parents (40% of them, according to a study) modify their working conditions or even leave your job after motherhood or fatherhood.

This is the first Caser Study on Family Health: mothers and fathers of the 21st century, prepared by the insurance company Cáser, which ensures that 59.4% of Spanish parents are still in their jobs after having a child, while 2% say that their working conditions have worsened since then and the 14.8% who have finished leaving work.

At this point, another conclusion of the study is clear: women are the ones who are hardest hit when they have a child: 34% say that their employment has been damaged, and 20.6% have left their job to take care of their children.

"Although society is changing, Motherhood and fatherhood continues to be a sacrifice or an important resignation in the professional field ", has criticized the director of Health of Caser, Miguel Azpeitia, who has explained that the data have been obtained from interviewing 1,800 men and women from all Spain with children born since 2012 or who, in At the time of the investigation, they were in the process of gestation.

Motherhood and the professional development of women

The work has also had the collaboration of a group of blogging mothers, who have contributed their personal experience to the results and have warned that motherhood continues to be "an important handicap" in the professional development of women.

Another highlight of this investigation is the one that has to do with The conciliation: 53.4 percent of the respondents say they have no problems reconciling, but at the same time 68.4% say that they spend little time with the family, and that this happens as a result of work.

In this regard, the group of mothers explained that the quantification of this problem depends on the help that the parents have, as they ensure that it is often a "conciliation of three", that is, grandparents and other caregivers come into play side of the children.

And, speaking of caregivers, according to this research, mothers are still the people with whom children spend more time (67.5%), followed by the father (18.3%), the grandparents (6.7%) and the nurseries or children's centers (5.6%). Of these secondary caregivers, the role of grandparents is the most valued: they get a grade of 3.75 on a scale of 1 to 5.

Better day care centers than schools

The study has revealed, also, that parents value nurseries better than schools: the former have a score of 4.53, while the latter reach 3.44 out of 5. For Azpeitia, the reason for this is lcloseness in the treatment of children's centers.

However, on the use of day care centers another interesting result has been obtained: As the number of children increases, that of nurseries decreases, although the valuation increases. Specifically, while families with only one child take it to the nursery by 61.9%, the percentage drops to 50.4% in the case of families with two children, and up to 39.3% in families With three children.

With regard to schools, the work shows that 72.4% of parents prefers public schools to school their children, something that is even clearer in the case of large families (87%). Also, 82% of respondents say that when looking for a school should be expected that their educational principles match those of the family.

The main concern, health

What worries parents the most? On this also has been asked in the interviews, concluding that health is the main concern about their children. At this point, the majority (65%) go to public health, with only 13% of people choosing private and 23% combining the use of both.

"Despite them, in the first years of life of the son, 35% of the parents opted for private health, which shows that their interest in the health of their children in this period is much higher than what can be in other moments of life, "says the director of Health in the insurer.

It was also wanted to know how much one goes to the Pediatrics and Gynecology services, finding that pregnant women go to the gynecologist an average of 1,11 times a month, in addition to scheduled reviews, while the pediatrician frequency is 6.33 days per year for those born after 2012, in addition to the revisions of the healthy child program.

A special section of this work has been dedicated to the Breastfeeding, and the challenge it poses for mothers.According to these surveys, it is the option chosen by 89.6% of the families and, on average, the baby is breast-fed for about 10 months (9.7). Of course, highlights that 58.9% of mothers do so for a year, and that 18.4% continues between 13 and 24 months.

The public aid

If raising a child is not easy, it is not cheap either. At this point, the work has revealed that 58% of the parents interviewed they do not know the public aid that the administrations have thought for the families.

The most popular aid for parents is: the deduction of 10 euros a month to working mothers in the IRPF, the aid to large families or single parents, educational scholarships, the reconciliation aid and the single payment at birth.

At this point, most parents agree on ask for more aid that makes it possible to reconcile work and family (although this was not one of the big problems perceived by parents) and the extension of the casualties for maternity and paternity.

Finally, the study has once again highlighted the fact that the Internet is the most used source of information by mothers and fathers, although at the same time it is perceived as less safe and reliable. In this sense, it is the members of previous generations who value Internet information better, although they prefer to go to medical centers. 60% of the respondents would like that, if new sources of information were created, they would come from the State Administration.
