Children from two years of age have better grades in math and reading

There are few who say the advantages of children being schooled soon and go to the nursery. According to new research, those who carry Early Childhood Education since two years they get better grades in Mathematics and Reading in 4th of Primary: a 6 and a 4.4 percent more.

This is what the study says 'Importance of the Infantile Education in the results in Primary', integrated in 'reflections on the Spanish educational system' of the European Foundation Society and Education, sponsored by the Ramón Areces Foundation.

With this work, the professors of the Complutense University of Madrid Daniel Santín and Gabriela Sicilia assure that the results "show that the years received from Infant Education affect significantly and positively to the academic performance of students in Primary"they say.

The importance of Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Education (from zero to five years) is voluntary in Spain and free after three years in public and private schools, however, the authors of the investigation warn that "there is still a concept of childcare purely care, and it is considered that it is not important in the educational sense, according to Professor Santín, who urges to invest in this stage because this "supposes a very important revenue for the population".

"They can say (policy makers) that they are not safe and do a random test," said this expert, while asking that Free education to children from zero to three years is extended and that, "if the decision is not made, at least start looking for information".

This research comes to open the debate on the free education since two years, and points out that if budget resources are not enough, you can increase the scholarships for early schooling of children from the most disadvantaged families, who are the ones who tend not to attend this stage.

The school dropout

On the other hand, in the framework of the study 'Reflections on the Spanish educational system' another study has been presented, this time by the professors of the University of Barcelona Jorge Calero and Oriol Escardíbul. Both experts conclude that the reduction of the rate of early school leaving in Spain "is not homogeneous between the different sociocultural groups. "

The investigation, entitled 'Iequality of opportunities: educational inclusion and exclusion in Spain ', warns that among young people from disadvantaged backgrounds school dropout has not improved, something that has experienced in the environment of those who are in more advantageous sociocultural situations.

"For some income groups the fall is very important and for those with low incomes, it is almost nil, because they remain as they are," said Calero. In particular, the incidence of school dropout(which is not the same as school failure) in the lowest income group is six times higher than in the highest: young people with low income have reduced the school dropout rate by 16.9%, while those with low income have higher rents have done so by 52.3% between 2007 and 2013.
