As you remember from the Eroski consumer guide, to be sure that we give our son a food according to your age (and, therefore, with their nutritional needs), it is important to read the labels of the different jars well. We tell you how to do it.

Feeding with baby food

After six months, our baby begins to have more nutritional needs that make it necessary to start the so-called complementary feeding, that is, add new foods such as cereals, fruits, meats, fish and vegetables. This is where homemade baby food and purées come into play, as well as industrial baby food, an option that is becoming more and more widespread due to the lack of time in families.

To be sure that you choose a suitable industrial pot, the key is to read the label well, it is mandatory that it includes all the information you need to know before giving it to your baby: the recommended age, the ingredients, the intolerances, and so on.

Guide to keep in mind about the labels of baby food

1.- Locate the child's age. From Eroski Consumer remember that the first key to choose a suitable potito is to observe for what age the product is recommended, because this data tells us from what age this food can be consumed. In general, the baby food and baby food are divided between six months, eight months and 12 months.

2.- Review the ingredients. The next step is to review well the ingredients that make up this product to check that it follows the indications set by your pediatrician. The Nutrition Committee of the Spanish Association of Pediatrics suggests delaying up to 10 months the incorporation of foods that can cause allergies, such as peaches and fish, so you should avoid them before that age, although the potito mark that the product can be consumed by a six-month-old baby, for example.

3.- Understand the name of the potito. It may seem silly, but it is not. Although sometimes the name makes clear the ingredients (for example, "rice with chicken"), in others it is not specified in concrete ("what are multifrutas?"). This advice is totally related to the previous one: read the food label well and memorize which ones go in each jar. And beware! The recipes also vary from one brand to another.

4.- Special labeling. Finally, it is good to remember that we must take into account the child's allergies or intolerances. Most baby food include in their label mentions related to the presence or absence of certain elements in its composition: review it well if your child has some kind of allergy and remember, pediatricians recommend not giving gluten to babies before four months, but also not delay after seven.
