Double degree, a bet to find a job

The double degree courses consist of obtaining two degrees integrated in a single program of studies. The duration of the double degrees is, obviously, higher than that of a single degree, but much lower than the one that would involve the two races consecutively for the youngsters. When speaking of double degrees in Spain, it means that two official titles are obtained. Choosing these careers gives more possibilities to find a job, as also happens with the master's degrees.

Characteristics of double degrees

1. Two different titles. The student who studies the double degree will obtain two university degrees and homologables, that is, if he is a Telecommunications Engineer + Bachelor of Business Administration and Management.

2. Same training. The student receives the same training as if he chose only one career.

3. It allows to continue with only one career. If once the double degree has been started, the student realizes that, for any circumstance, he can not with both races, he can leave one and continue with the other. The approved common subjects are validated and logically, as in all the races, the passed subjects will not have to return to course if after a time you want to continue with the career you left.

4. Cutting note. The cut note, currently, is marked by supply and demand. If 50 places are offered in a degree or double degree and there are 100 students who wish to take it, the cut grade will be higher.

5. Adapted to the labor demand. One of the objectives of the double degree is that they have been designed and adapted to the labor market. That is, a graduate in Advertising and Public Relations has to compensate his studies many times, with a Master in Business Management to access a higher job. With the double degree this situation does not happen.

6. Post access to the double degree. In some universities, students must start at the beginning of their studies, validating some subjects that they have already passed by taking a single degree.

The demand of the company

The double degrees have been designed among other reasons, by the demand of the companies. For example, many telecommunications engineers lacked a global vision of the company, when they needed it. In addition, the worker who is looking for companies is currently a person with a complete academic training, with initiative, able to communicate with others, work as a team, resource management and negotiation. A student with double degrees, also demonstrates ability to work and study, perseverance and will.

Advice before enrolling in a double degree

- Before accessing a double degree, consult and request information: how many hours of study you need, difficulties, advantages, etc., do not let yourself be carried away by enthusiasm, even if this is already very good.
- Ask and also learn about the different study plans in double degrees from different universities, both public and private: what differences exist, whether it compensates the economic effort if it is a private one, what other advantages exist, etc.
- Double bilingual certification also requires a lot of effort and good preparation, but there are students who thought they did not have a level and passed the optional test. Let the University advise you if you can study a bilingual career. In addition, not all subjects are in English.
- If you doubt, you better start with the double degree. You know you're always in time to leave one and continue with the other. Accessing the double degree after starting only one is more difficult. If you think you have capacity and you are between two waters (what do I choose, this career or this one) do not hesitate: go for two degrees. The double degree does not consist in knowing a little bit of the two careers, but a student receives the same training of each degree as if he studied one.
