Low early school leaving in Spain, but remains high
It is considered "school dropout premature"when a young person between 18 and 24 years old does not continue with their studies beyond the compulsory stage. has dropped seven tenths in Spain during the first quarter of 2015, up to 21.2 percent, the biggest decline in a single quarter since 2011.
This is extracted from the data from the Survey of the Active Population (EPA), which shows us how early school leaving in Spain was placed, in 2011, at 26.3 percent, which means that since then has experienced a decrease of 5.1 points.
Despite this good news, they show us that young people are spending more time studying, the truth is our country is still far from reaching the European objective of 2020: Reduce up to 15 percent the proportion of young people who do not study beyond ESO.
Comparison with Europe
In fact, according to Eurostat data, Spain is leader of the European Union in school failure: the percentage of young people who leave school in our country doubles the average of the rest of European countries, which stands at 11.1 percent. These same data show that the proportion of school failure in Spain is much higher in men (25.6 percent) than in women (18.1 percent).
According to the information provided by Eurostat, the rest of the countries in the European Union with the highest school failure rate are Malta (20.4 percent), Romania (18.1 percent), Portugal (17.4 percent) and Italy (15 percent). ). All these countries are very far from others such as Croatia, the Czech Republic or Lithuania, which have a rate of 5.4; 5.5 and 5.9 percent, respectively.
Good results in universities
But not everything is bad: Spain registers very good results in the educational indicators that have to do with the University: 42.3 percent of the population between 30 and 34 years has finished university education (or equivalent), a percentage very close to 44 percent marked as the EU target for 2020. Also in this case women have better results than men: 47.8 percent against 36.8 percent.
If we compare with other countries, the places where there is a higher percentage of citizens with university studies they are Lithuania (53.3 percent), Luxembourg (52.7 percent) and Ireland (52.2 percent). On the opposite side are Italy (23.9 percent), Romania (25 percent), Malta (26.6 percent), Slovakia (26.9 percent) and the Czech Republic (28.2 percent).
