Marriage ruptures increase in Spain

Requests for dissolve marriages in Spain have increased in 2014 almost seven percent, arriving at 133.441 in total compared to the 124.797 of the previous year. In this way, the national average of demands of dissolution of marriages per thousand inhabitants is 2.9.

This is shown by the data of the General Council of the Judiciary, which shows how the average demand for marital breakdowns is greater in the Canary Islands (3.3 per thousand inhabitants), the Valencian Community (3.2), Catalonia (3.1) and Andalusia, Asturias and the Balearic Islands (3 per thousand inhabitants). On the other hand, the lowest number of marital breakdowns has been recorded in Castilla y León (2.2 on average), followed by Extremadura, Navarra, the Basque Country and La Rioja.


Marriage ruptures: divorces

According to these official data, they are the divorce lawsuits those that have increased the most at the end of 2014. In fact, it has gone from 117,935 in 2013 to 126,400 last year; that is, they have experienced an increase of 7.2 percent. Likewise, divorces that were mutually agreed upon have increased (by 7.8 percent): a total of 75,795 in 2014. In contrast, there were 50,605 non-consensual divorces (an increase of 6.3 percent).

By Autonomous Communities, the Canary Islands has been the only one that has not observed an increase in divorces by mutual agreement, while non-consensual divorces increased in almost all regions except the Canary Islands, Cantabria and Extremadura.


Marriage ruptures: separations

With respect to the separations, have increased less: 2.6 percent; going from 6,862 in 2013 to 7,041 in 2014. Also this time the separations by mutual agreement are the ones that have increased the most: 3.7 percent compared to the 0.4 percent that increased the contentious.

Data from regions in Spain show that separations by mutual agreement They went up in nine Autonomous Communities and went down in Aragón, Canarias, Cataluña, Extremadura, Murcia, Navarra, La Rioja and País Vasco. On the other hand, contentious separations increased in ten communities and decreased in Aragón, Castilla y León, Comunidad Valenciana, Extremadura, Galicia, Navarra and País Vasco.

Finally, the information of the General Council of the Judiciary also shows a slight increase in marriage annulments: in 2014 there were 204, while in 2013, 178 were counted.
