Yoga can prevent childhood stress

Do you like yoga? Do you know all its benefits, for example for pregnancy? Now they have added one more, but this time for the children: The practice of yoga can prevent and reduce childhood stress and anxiety, as well as helping to prevent possible behavioral problems in both school and family contexts.

This has been demonstrated by a study carried out by a student of the Master's Degree in Psychological Prevention in Behavioral Problems at the School of the International University of Valencia (VIU), which has launched several workshops in which 75 children of five years have participated.

The objective of his research was to know the benefits of yoga when it comes to preventing stress in the little ones. "There is a positive relationship between the prevention and improvement of inappropriate behavior of students in the classroom with relaxation and concentration techniques derived from the practice of yoga," says the researcher.


Research on stress in children and yoga

During her work, this researcher has found that many of the behaviors that cause stress in children (60 percent) are motivated by issues related to their loved ones, mainly by their grandparents or parents or the fear of losing them. Likewise, he has also found that Stress is related to loneliness.

And in this context, he assures that yoga can help improve the behaviors of children since "it helps the minors to increase their concentration, to diminish their anxiety and their aggressiveness, to reinforce their self-esteem and to help them to confront the conflicts in a relaxed and thoughtful way".


Be at school

This expert also refers in her work to the elements that generate stress or anxiety in the classrooms of the schools. On this, his project has compiled how very high continuous voice tones, complaints and a non-participatory work environment are the ones that generate the most interference in the student.

In this regard, he points out that with yoga at school The number of conflicts in the classroom can be gradually diminished, as children learn to internalize basic tools in the day to day as dialogue, listening or concentration when solving the problems that arise, while learning to control their emotions.

According to the author of the text, yoga can also help them to assume responsibilities before the norms and the consequences that come from their acts. In addition, he says that students learn to recognize emotions such as anger, worry, fear and frustration since "the lack of recognition of certain emotions was also a cause of stress", that is, the feeling that something happens to them, but not knowing what it was, nor how to express it, explain it or understand it.


The research concludes also ensuring that teachers can, also through yoga, observe the behavior of children while practicing, something that will allow them detect possible behavioral problems, which in turn will give them room to intervene and solve it both at school and at home with the help of the family.
