BMW 2 Series Active Tourer: the BMW family car

The German manufacturer breaks with its tradition and launches a new car with front-wheel drive in a body type minivan, within its Series 2. Its main argument is the functionality.

The new Series 2 Active Tourer is the first BMW in history that abandons the rear propulsion and it is passed to the now more conventional front and it does also on a novelty in the brand, a minivan body. The truth is that the containment of its measures, almost does not seem from the outside, although inside has all the qualities expected from this model.
The exterior design of the new Active Tourer is in line with other competing models, such as the Mercedes B-Class or the Volkswagen Sportsvan, its two enemies by origin and concept, but with a typical BMW front grille and a rear more next to an SUV.

Its size is very restrained -4.34 meters- for a minivan, but very well used. It is one of the advantages that all the mechanics are in the front and that the cantilevers have been designed very short, to take advantage of all the interior space, with a width behind enough for the legs and the head of the passengers Taller. In addition, a trunk of 468 liters that has been known to take advantage, in which, if we fold the seats by 40:20:40, we can leave Ikea with all the packages inside the car.

Continuing with the interior, the new Active Tourer has very practical solutions - apart from the innumerable holes to carry things - such as the displacement of the rear seats to leave more space for the trunk and, optionally, the possibility of tipping more or less the backrest to be more comfortable. Also, as part of the standard equipment, the Opening the luggage compartment with a quick movement and direct foot under the rear bumper thanks to the sensors, very practical when you arrive loaded to the car.

Gasoline and diesel BMW

At first there are three available mechanics, two gasoline and one diesel. The first will be the 218i of gasoline, with a three-cylinder engine that generates 136 horses and an expenditure of 5.2 liters per 100 km., with a six-speed manual gearbox that moves the car well. The following is the 225i that, with four cylinders and 231 horses, allows to circulate with great joy and a content consumption of 6 liters per 100 kilometers. In addition, this version comes with an efficient gearbox Steptronic of 8 speeds and paddles on the steering wheel. As for diesel, the first to go on sale will be the 218d, a turbo diesel with 150 horses and a consumption of 4.3 liters per 100 km. Both in this case and in the small gasoline there is the possibility of ordering an automatic gearbox Steptronic of six speeds. This is the one that we have driven most in city and highway and perhaps the one that keeps the best compromise between response to accelerator, elasticity and consumption.

In BMW say that the front drive does not betray the sporting spirit of the brand, which is true when we give joy to the right foot and especially with the most powerful engine. We must not forget that we are talking about a car very familiar use and these things must go into the background in favor of practicality.
