The optimism of the families for 2015 grows

Spanish families are more optimistic about their economic future in 2015, according to a survey carried out by The Family Watch. Among the results are small changes that point to the optimism of families, as more people believe that their situation will improve this year, specifically 24 percent of respondents, compared to 18 percent of the previous year.

There are also fewer pessimists who think that 2015 will be a worse year, since the percentage has fallen to 18.5 percent, compared to 21 percent the previous year.

Well-being and quality of life for families

However, 60 percent of respondents believe that their quality of life has declined and half, that is, 50 percent of respondents believe that their economic situation will remain the same within a year.

These are some of the data that emerge from the IV The Family Watch Barometer of the Family in Spain that has counted on the opinions collected in more than 600 homes of all the Autonomous Communities, including Ceuta and Melilla. The study has been carried out by the consultancy GAD3 and has received the sponsorship of the Madrid Vivo Foundation.

Factors that affect the family

The study has also revealed what are different factors that affect the Spanish family.
1. The role of the family. 54.2 percent of respondents consider that the role of the family in Spain is publicly and legally recognized and 39.4 percent of the population believes that this institution is not yet recognized as it deserves.

2. Child poverty. For 31 percent of the respondents, poverty is the main problem faced by children in our country, as a result of the crisis that Spain has suffered, the destruction of employment and lower wages, coupled with shortages of public aid. Six out of ten households consider that child poverty must be a state matter.

3. Social welfare. Forty-three percent of families think that their children's future well-being will be much worse than that of their parents. Something that happens for the first time, because parents have always thought that their children would live better.

María José Olesti, general director of The Family Watch, in relation to these data states that "the crisis has fallen mainly in the generations of less than 45. Some have lost their jobs, or have been relocated in positions of lower qualification and salary." If we add to that the family obligations: mortgage and the attention to the children we see that in many cases we are making their impoverishment more and more, or we support these families more with help or the next problem we will face is the demographic, as all the known statistics show ". Olesti pleads for the expected Comprehensive Family Support Plan, prepared by the Government, as the "great hope to improve the lives of families in our country."

Child safety and new technologies

In relation to new technologies, the safety of minors remains the principal
concern of Spanish families in 2 out of 3 households. The use of tools
Information technology for intrafamily communication continues to rise, with WhatsApp groups being the most used and more than half of respondents affirming that Skype is one of the tools that helps them most in their communication with other members of their family.
