At Christmas, the elderly will have the opportunity to enjoy the company of others on such important dates as Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, thanks to the initiative No greater alone at Christmas, which will allow elderly people to share lunch, snack or dinner in the nursing home closest to their home with the possibility to stay overnight or return home, as they prefer.
Solidarity campaign of the IMSERSO
The president of the Business Federation of the FED Unit, José Alberto Echevarría, has presented together with the director general of IMSERSO, César Antón, the new campaign for the elderly on these dates: No greater alone at Christmas. For the ninth consecutive year, the FED carries out this initiative, which consists of enabling the homes of elderly people throughout Spain so that the elderly can celebrate in company the days of Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year's Eve and New Year.
The objective of this campaign is focused on helping all elderly people feel sheltered during these important dates. It is, therefore, about combating loneliness, an evil that affects many elderly people.
A Christmas in company
The initiative includes lunch, snack and dinner, In addition to several activities that will be carried out during those Christmas days. On the other hand, older people who want itcan do night in the residence closer to your home and in case you prefer to sleep in your own home, the person will be sent to their home by the mechanism they prefer: transport of the center or public transport (taxi).
On the other hand, the oldest will be able to spend Christmas and New Year's Day, sharing breakfast and lunch, and returning to the private home in the afternoon.
This campaign that already has a life of almost 10 years it also serves to promote the integration and socialization of the elderly and dependent, as well as the promotion of their social relations and access to group activities. The investment seeks that the elderly do not feel in a residence, but as in their own homes.
The FED is composed of 17 regional employers representing more than 150,000 residential places, 28,000 places in day centers, 230,000 home help beneficiaries and more than 315,000 telecare users.
