The driving license by degrees for novice drivers

The safety of novice drivers is a concern for parents, driving instructors and for young people themselves, who begin their experience in the world of driving. So that over time, the new drivers will acquire experience and ability in low risk environments, until they ultimately obtain the definitive driver's license, they want to start the driver's license by degrees.

Restrictions of the degree card for young people

The degree card restricts a number of aspects of driving. But nevertheless, these restrictions are eliminated as time progresses and the driver is passing tests until, finally, he gets the definitive driver's license. These are some of the restrictions imposed by the license by degrees:

- Night driving.
- Driving on the highway.
- Driving without surveillance during the early stages.
- The age and number of passengers.

Driving license by degrees for novice drivers in Spain

Now, Goodyear has carried out a study to know the opinion of the parents about some initiatives such as the driver's license by degrees. The data in this Goodyear report Road safety comes first: Improve road safety for young drivers come from a survey of more than 6,800 parents of novice drivers (between 16 and 25 years old) from 19 countries in order to better understand the parents' opinion on road safety, both when setting an example at the wheel, Help your children when they learn to drive.

This initiative is supported by 43 percent of parents of novice drivers in Spain, who is in favor of a driver's license system by degrees. Similarly, this proposal has been well received in the EU, where 42 percent of parents of novice drivers are in favor, highlighting the support of the parents of the United Kingdom, where 66 percent are in favor of permission by degrees .

On the contrary, Sweden has the lowest percentage of support for this proposal (15%). Outside the EU, the data that stands out the most is that collected in Turkey: 85 percent of the Turkish parents surveyed agreed with the point-card system for new drivers.

Black box technology for novice drivers

The objective is to significantly reduce risk behaviors, especially in the case of young drivers. Thus, this study affirms that, "the voluntary use of a telematic system helps young drivers to comply with the norms and helps them to contain themselves when they feel tempted to let themselves be carried away by moments of madness".

- Novice drivers. In the first place, it is important to analyze the possible effects of the implementation of the black box technology in the vehicles of the novice drivers. The study seems to indicate that, those young people who know they are watched by their parents, will drive with greater care. On the other hand, the parents of those drivers (57% of the parents), agree that this technology would improve the behavior of their son at the wheel.

- Parents. The first individuals who support the implementation of black box technology are the parents. Almost half of them (44%) say that this new measure would allow them to control the speed and behavior behind the wheel of their children, thus increasing their safety.

Similarly, in Europe, the percentage of support for black box technology by parents is similar to that of Spaniards: 46 percent are in favor of its use. Within the EU, the countries where support is greatest are: Italy (73%), Poland (72%) and Romania (72%). Outside the EU, there is great support in Turkey (85%) and South Africa (79%).

- Insurance companies. For their part, insurance companies are currently developing insurance policies that include black box reports that help them to know the way in which they drive the people they have insured. Knowing this data will help companies adapt their prices depending on the level of driving safety, and may even cancel the policy in case a driver is too insecure or reckless.

Parents more involved in driving their children

In addition to supporting the black box technology in new drivers as an effective measure to monitor the driving of their children, many Spanish parents, if they could, would be more actively involved in their child's learning. In this sense, 62 percent of parents said that they would like to know more about driving their children and that, therefore, they would like the driving instructor who is giving the practical classes to their son, to send them regularly reports on your progress.

A percentage that places Spanish parents above the average of Europeans (53%).In addition, almost half of Spanish parents (44%) say that they would like to attend classes as a passenger (compared to 40% of European parents).
