Reconciling family and work life in social networks

The problems to reconcile family and work life affect a large number of people, regardless of whether they are men or women. To combine personal and working life should be possible for everyone, an even more difficult goal in the case of women who are mothers. The movement #mamiconcilia tries to show that this is possible.

Movement #mamiconcilia in social networks

The movement #mamiconcilia arises in the social networks to reflect on these problems that arise when trying to reconcile work and personal life. Its objective is to raise awareness that it is possible to be a mother, a woman, a daughter and a friend without giving up the work environment, understanding that "to conciliate is to have the possibility of living".

The starting point of this movement arises from the launch of the ebook with the same name, #mamiconcilia, which collects the testimonies of twenty-eight female managers of the communication sector, marketing and advertising, a sector characterized by the demand, long hours and consequently, high levels of stress.

Thus, Use Madinaveitia, the promoter of this movement, decided to resort, after the birth of their first child, to a group of twenty-eight women managers who told their experiences of reconciliation on a day-to-day basis. All of them are women who lived the difficult task of combining personal life with family life in the best way possible.

The idea was a success. The book was trending topic in Madrid on the day of its launch, and a week later exceeded 700 downloads, reaching 2,000 at two months. Its presence in social networks was also immediate, in the first two months of existence, the hashtag #mamiconcilia was used more than 3,000 times.

Ideas to reconcile work and family life

In addition to the experiences of these 28 directives that the book collects, they contributeideas for companies put into practice in order to facilitate reconciliation to their workers. Trust is the basis of many of these initiatives that understand that, the more confidence workers feel, the more their commitment increases and thus their performance. These are some of them:

-  Flexible entry and exit times.
Reduced day.
- Possibility of buying a vacation.
- Exceedances
- Teleworking
Primate the results in front of contact hours.

#Salpuntual campaign to reconcile family and work

Currently, this same movement, through social networks, is promoting the #salpuntual campaign, an idea imported from the United Kingdom. There, the Foundation Working Families promotes the "Go Home on Time Day" (Day to go home on time) since the year 2000. The idea is that the Spaniards carry out this initiative and begin to leave at their work hour.

It's about making people aware that be happy at work and get more productive they are two things that go hand in hand and that big companies should take into account. This last objective, that companies make this reflection about their workers, is an important challenge, since, even many companies see with fear that normalize the fact that workers leave on time.

In order to ensure that, at least for a day, workers leave on time and reduce their addiction to work, the #salpuntual campaign proposes some measures to improve the quality of life of workers:

- Avoid last minute meetings and trips.
- Appoint a senior official to take care of reminding staff that they have to leave on time.
- Prevent workers from taking their laptop or mobile phone home from work.
