Return to healthy habits after the summer

On vacation, the routine is forgotten, the obligations are reduced and the control of healthy habits and food becomes more flexible. Eating out of the house, alcohol and the abuse of fats and sweets mean that our body also has a bill in the form of extra kilos:an average of 3 kilos is fattened every summer.

In summer we return with 3 or 5 kilos of more

The specialist in nutrition and gastronomy of the European Medical Institute of Health (IMEO) Rubén Bravo, has declared that "during the summer an average of between three and five kilos is usually gained per person because we also drink gastronomic holidaysand we have a worse diet. "

The problem not only lies in the amount of food, but in that they have more fat than we are used to and get to lose it is more difficult, so in the end our metabolism is harmed by substituting the necessary nutrients in the diet for fats.

The main reason is the abandonment of habits that one is acquiring and following during the year: eat moderately, not peck between hours ... But on vacation one forgets all this.

Back to healthy living habits after the summer

The dietitian Mónica Pérez recommended after the excesses of summer return to healthy habits, that is to say, you can commit excesses as long as you know how to return to good habits, so we should not fear the scale so much at this time.

Dr. Pérez advises us to "get away from the false belief of taking the diet as something restrictive in our diet." The ideal, from your point of view, is to always lead a healthy lifestyle. We usually apply the concept of diet to a short period of time when only by maintaining a good long-term nutrition, without depriving us of anything but in moderation, we could be at our ideal weight.

Taking a few kilos in summer is indicative that previously they have not had good habits of life. We can overindulge at some point, to the desire of an ice cream or a good meal outside the home, but that, with adequate food for the rest of the year, will not make us so fat.

The dietitian points out that this happens to us because we trust the miracle diets that proliferate before, because of the bikini operation, and after the holidays, because of the remorse, and it reminds us that success lies in perseverance.

Guidelines for a healthier diet

- Always carry a healthy life style both in the diet and in the practice of physical exercise.

- Have the food base of plant origin: legumes, cereals, vegetables, fruit ... And eat less protein, meat and fish.

- There is no compensation in the food. Exceeding ourselves in the food and taking us at night a yogurt is not going to compensate. The negative consequences of excess will not be corrected by taking such a drastic food restriction as a solution.

- The Weight gain is harmful and more if it is because of consuming very fatty, caloric and sugar-rich foods, because not only can changes in our physique be seen, but the figures of cholesterol, triglycerides may increase.

- Balance the calories. Making three to five meals a day is ideal, accompanied by a minimum of two pieces of fruit per day.
