Migrate to work

With a youth unemployment rate of around 50 percent, the 70 percent of young people are willing to emigrate to work. Spain has the generation of better-prepared young people in its history, but with less possibilities of getting a job. And faced with the current crisis situation, many have decided to take a step forward by emigrating to other countries in search of work.

These young emigrants have university careers, speak languages, have good preparation, but either they can not find a job, or the jobs in which they live only offer them precariousness. A bleeding event, more if we take into account that 39 percent of Spaniards between 25 and 35 have a university degree or higher vocational training. A preparation that does not bear fruit: according to the latest data, the youth unemployment rate in Spain exceeds 50 percent, which doubles the European average.

With a current rate of more than five million unemployed in Spain, it is not surprising that many young people have decided to seek life abroad, as their grandparents did. Bad news also for our country, which lives in this exodus an alarming loss of talent and good preparation, essential for its development.

Something positive: emigrate improves training

Faced with a situation of crisis and unemployment, we can draw a positive fact, and that is that it improves training; both in order to be able to speak fluently to speak a foreign language and be able to emigrate, as well as to achieve greater training in the area in which they work. To this training in foreign languages must be added the "boom" that is living in our own country learning English, French, German and Chinese, both by young people and adults.

Find out before taking the first step

It takes courage to emigrate and leave the family, friends and comforts to which one is accustomed in their country of origin. But before us a lot of possibilities opens up if we decide to take the step. If we are evaluating going to work abroad, we will have to take into account a series of guidelines.
1. Updated basic documentation. Depending on the destination we choose, the time of preparation for the move can last from 6 to 18 months, taking into account whether the stay will be permanent or temporary and the conditions that each country establishes for immigrants. In addition, we must make an effort to know in depth the country chosen to work and learn about the opportunities it offers us. If we hesitate among several, look at what are the favorable and unfavorable elements of each country according to what we are looking for: the socio-cultural characteristics, the language, if we have any acquaintance in the country that can suppose a support, etc.
2. The situation of the labor market. It is, after all, the issue that interests us the most. We are looking for a job that meets our expectations, so we will have to pay attention to the real opportunities we will have to get that job for which we are prepared. In addition, we have to bear in mind that if we do not find the desired job at the first, it will be easier for us to continue looking for it while we are employed in the country to which we have emigrated.
3. Quality of life. There is the political and economic stability of the country, taxes to pay, access to education, public safety and the quality of public services, especially health, so as not to carry surprises once we land in our destination. Let's select countries that offer a good level of well-being.
4. Cultural similarities. No country is equal to another, but we can find some in which the customs are more similar to ours. We must also assess our ability to withstand factors such as climate or language. The climate is important because there are people who can not get to a country with freezing temperatures or long periods of rain.
5. Adaptation to the new environment. It costs a little at the beginning. It is normal, since we are in an unknown place, with responsibilities to fulfill, without our family to find support and it will probably be difficult for us to master the language at the beginning, besides that many of our customs collide with those of the inhabitants. This process is called "intercultural adaptation", and it is usually especially hard the first year, during which we will have to make a new work environment and probably have to improve our skills through courses to level ourselves.

The most valued destinations to emigrate in search of employment

Tips before leaving as an emigrant

- One of the primary keys to undertake this type of adventure is to have great doses of enthusiasm. This new experience will come loaded with important experiences but also difficulties and in some moments of loneliness, leaving family, country, etc.

- If we know friends, family, colleagues, neighbors, etc., who have worked in a country that interests us, let's ask them about their experience. They will help us and guide us in many fields.

- Working in another country also means learning to be tolerant and respect others. It will be a time when we will meet an important number of people of different nationality, religion and formation. The exchange of cultures is always enriching if we know how to keep our principles solid.

- If we embark on the adventure of working abroad, the experts recommend contacting the Embassy of the country, or Internet tools such as the EURES Network or the FUE portal, promoted by the Chamber of Commerce of Madrid with the employment portals of each country.

- Before leaving, we have to make sure that we have all the necessary documentation in order. We must also try to clarify from Spain all the details of the stay (flights, transportation to the destination city, accommodation, maintenance, remuneration), so that there are no dislikes on arrival.
